Hey,

I'm facing a little problem. I have a budget of £1300, I will be buying at the end of next month, or sooner if need be. I have decided on a D300 from Argos at £979 and a 50mm 1.4.

I also currently have a 50-150 sigma 2.8 and a 10-20 sigma.

I think I need something for the 17-70 range, but not sure what.

Thinking of getting rid of the 10-20 and getting something else. Any suggestions for around the £300 mark?

Thanks

Tamron 17-50 F2.8.............

I have the Nikon 17-55 and the Tamron 17-50,both F2.8, both very good, massive price difference.

I love my Tamron 17-50 2.8. It's a great little performer.

Tamron 17-50 2.8 close to the IQ of the Nikon and at least a 1/3rd the price, great lens

Tamron 17-50 F2.8 was the first thing that popped in my head as well before reading any of the other responses.

Hi Benwall, the Tamron is an awesome lens for the money i had 1 along side a Nikon 17-55 and could not tell the difference IQ wise, build quality not on par with the Nikon but thats about it. good luck

Regards Lee.

Tamron if you only care about results
Nikon if you want a well built lens that is a joy to use.
imo

Good review here by Thom Hogan.

I rarely used the lens at its widest so can't answer your question directly. The majority of the feedback/reviews I've read point out to the fact that the weak point of the lens is at the wide end.

Cracking lens optically though.

that's the thing, when u get an ultrawide lens like this you tend to use the 17mm and 50mm more often than others (on cropped sensor) according to the review and other reviews the 17mm has vignetting problem that doesn't really go away even stopping down
