Off to Vegas next wednesday and can't be bothered taking my SLR, its a stag do so just want a little compact camera but a good one.

seen the CANON PowerShot G12 which my mate has, bit pricey mind but does anyone else know of a good compact as most i try in the shops are crap.

thanks

G12 just doesn't count as a compact in my book, the S95 would be my choice (I have an S90 so I would say that).

Have you thought about a Samsung EX-1.

F1.8 - 2.4 lens, good high ISO performance, well built, swiveling screen about £250

The S95 should be available for a lower price now with the S100 due out this month.

Cheers everyone, some tempting cameras here.

was looking last night and almost set on Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX7V but now the EX-1 is looking really good.

When i said compact just really mean more compact than my SLR, something i can throw in my pocket.

gonna pop out in a bit and see what i get. need to look at all these posted here

Another vote for the S95 here

(and that's coming from a 'Nikonian')

Can't go wrong with the S95, but get a second battery as they do eat up the power.

Another vote from me, also a Nikon person... Canon's compacts to me just seem streets ahead in terms of ease of use! I recently bought a GF2 as my "small" chuck-in-the-rucksack camera, but if I ever need to replace my old Canon A590, I'd go straight for an S95

Another S95 vote, you can fit the G12 in a large pocket, but if you really want pocketable the S95 is perfect.

Just done a fair bit of reading around the net as I'm looking to upgrade my compact as well. If its a truly compact you want this looks like the one to go for.
Some of the other advanced compacts just aren't that small, to me a compact is something you can get in your pocket.....

This is now available for just over £210 from best buy with voucher and cash back from quidco.....
The s100 is due out this month I think but with a street price of nearly double the s95 this looks a cracking price.

I have an EX-1 for sale at the minute... It is an excellent bit of kit, but I just don't use it. Although IQ is very good as are the controls, it is a bit heavy for a compact. If size matters then I'd look at the S95. If not then my ad is in the classifieds ;-)

The S95 is 10MP is that good to clear sharp images please as I might get one when I save up?

10mp is fine for prints up to A3 size and is actually better for the small sensors on compact cameras. It is easier to control the noise when using high ISO's.

Ended up getting one of these Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V, found the quality of the pictures really good and thinking about the others like the g12 but couldn't be arced with the messing around and just wanted to put it in auto and go and found this was a winner.

will post up some shots a little later.
