I'm off to Amsterdam in september, And I really cannot justify paying £20 to put a few items of clothing in the hold of a plane (Unless I utilise the 20KG allowence and pack my sturdy tripod in a bag) So i'm looking for a bigger bag.
I want all my current kit* to fit in it, with space for an 11" Laptop aswell as a weeks worth of clothes(3 tee shirts, shirt, Socks etc).

Can anyone suggest a bag? I've looked and looked but not really found anything.
I would say my budget be around

Thank's for the help,

John

*Kit is :Canon 500D, eos 5, 70-200mm,kit lens,50mm, flash, accessories.

I wasn't going to, No. But After thinking, It could be advantageous to take it in a travel suitcase, spend the extra cash and put it in the hold with cloths. Spend the money it would cost me for a bag and hire a lens.

IIRC not all the budget airlines are 20kg...
Some friends were spitting feathers as they recently flew out with one budget airline, no problems.
But the return trip was a different airline with the lower limit and they failed to get the bag light enough despite wearing three coats etc. The excess baggage cost was monumental compared to the total cost of the trip.
Read the baggage small print darned carefully...... :rules:

I have already, I'm booking outgoing and return flights with the same company, and the baggage allowance is stated at 20kg not including carry on gear.

my carry on gear was weighed last year at Gatwick, apparently all airlines were doing this.
I had to spread the lenses around the family.

then put them all back in my bag before we got on the plane! Its madness I tell you !

I flew to Luton last year with the same bag I have now and I was totally fine. That could have been cause it was an internal flight. EasyJet's website state only the size, not the weight of hand luggage. I'm off to visit a friend over there, he's over this weekend, so I'll ask if he could enquire with them.

Hand luggage is 10kg on most airlines I've flew with

I keep a luggage scales handy when I'm going away

My friend is using the national geographic rucksack. Able to strap a tripod/monopod at the side/bottom of the bag. Looks nice but with a heavy price tag.

I've just been round Costa Rica with my FStop Satori EXP (60l rucksack), all my clothes/camera gear etc, I was able to take it on all flights as hand luggage.
