Need a 24mm?

I'm currently using a sigma 35mm f1.4 but being mostly landscape orientated I'm finding it a bit too tight, really want to go around 24ish focal length but unsure of which lens to go for. I'm also on a really tight budget so can't afford to make any mistakes!

At the moment I'm looking at nikons 16-35 but wondering how the samyang 24 f1.4 would compare? I've read about the older nikon ais and afd 24mm primes but they seem somewhat dated and have mixed reviews compared to the newer lenses.

Has anyone compared or have experience of the above mentioned samyang and how it might fare against the nikon, or anything else for that matter?

I'm using a d600 and want to make quality prints around the 16x20 mark.

If it helps at all...

I have a Sigma 20mm f1.8 and it seem to be a very good lens and it's quite sharp in the centre at f1.8. I believe that their 24mm f1.8 is very similar and if it is it'll be a good lens too.

However, I wanted to use mine for low light use as well as landscape and just general stuff and if you are looking for a wide angle lens just for landscape I wonder if you really need a wide aperture prime? Maybe a wide zoom might be a more flexible bet?

Other than that if you insist on a prime and you're willing to look at manual lenses there are plenty of 28mm f2.8 and even 24mm f2.8 legacy lenses you can use via a cheap adapter.

Go with Samyang without a doubt. It is actually sharper than Canon 24mm f/1.4L II wide open. http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/769-samyang24f14eosff?start=1 That says a lot. The only catch is manual focus only but you shouldn't need it for such a wide lens.

16-35 is a ZOOM and has VR and AF, but is only f/4 and has less resolution in the edges. I hope that is different enough for you

which pretty much beats the purpose of tilt and shift... Well the tilt part at least. Canon 24mk II L I am afraid is pretty much the only decent 24mm TSE for canon

Been doing some pixel peeping on the pixel peeper website and the Nikon 16-35mm vr looks to be the best bet. Will look into it a bit more until I'm ready to pull the trigger!!

The 16-35mm is a great lens and you won't be disappointed
