prob is it wont right click < and several keys arent woking right

I've done the same with a DELL laptop. Screens gone, processors gone, all down to Maxwell House. Had to bin it so you are dead lucky.

yes i think i've got off lightly

just need a new keyboard i reckon

Any sugar in the coffee?

You could always try taking the keyboard off (usually quite simple on a laptop) and washing it out under the shower, then drying it thoroughly in an airing cupboard. If you're planning to replace the keyboard anyway then you really have nothing to lose, and you won't do any more harm.

Most problems are caused when the power is still on, so you did right taking the battery out.

no , no sugar thankfully

i reckon laptops gonna spend tonight in the airing cupboard just to make sure theres no moisture anywhere

Was there milk in the coffee?

If you keep having problems I used to repair laptops for a living...

YES IT WAS MILKY < SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS < BUT CANT SWITCH THEM OFF AT THE MOMENT !!!!

ITS STILL PLAYING UP < AND CERTAIN THINGS DONT WORK RIGHT

ALL SEEMS KEYBOARD RELATED THOUGH

ARE THE KEYBOARDS EASY TO REPLACE ?

Keyboards are easy to replace, and if you want you can plug a USB keyboard in until you get a new one. What laptop do you have? If you don't fancy replacing it (Or it is one of the 'evil' ones to replace) I'm happy to do it for you.

I ask about milk as that IMO is worse than coke or sugary coffee. Sure, it won't do any damage but they can honk a bit after a couple of days once the milk starts to turn. Not overly bad just something to be aware of if you start to notice a funny smell.

its a dell latitude d EIGHT THREE O

SORRY HAD TO SPELL NUMBERS OUT COS THEY DONT WORK NOW AND CAP LOCKS JUST GONE ON AGAIN !!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

THANKS FOR THE OFFER OF HELP

If the laptop is working fine but the keyboard isn't, there is a roundabout solution to it. Just get a USB keyboard and plug that into a USB slot on the laptop and that way you can still use the laptop at least as the base machine. You can also get a USB mouse. :)

EDIT: RichardTheSane beat me to it! :D

Sorry, been a bit runn off em this eveing.

The keyboard should be under £30 and it is a simple fitting, held in by three screws and a plastic clip.

If you don't mind a keyboard from a laptop being broken for spares they are cheaper. Just search ebay for "D430 keyboard UK"

Dell are decent enough to put their service manuals online too
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd430/en/SM/index.htm

Just read all the links down to keyboard (You need to do hinge cover and keyboard sections to get the full story).

When I was In Afghan in Jan 2006, our tent at the yet-to-be-named Camp Bastion got flooded in a brief storm and I woke to the sound of running water under my camp-bed - all my kit was on the floor, so I had to spend the next day with everything laid out in the (cold) sunshine drying it all out...worked fine...that was a Sony Vaio - hateful beast...

just fitted a brand new keyboard and its all alright now !

thanks everyone for your replies
