ND Filters, what to buy

I've decided to get some ND grad filters as I'd like to try my hand at more landscape and perhaps some light trail shots.

After some searching I've decided against purchasing the Cokin ones as I've heard they can add casting to photos. I've heard some say that HiTech are very good and I just wondered if anybody else had any opinions on them?

Secondly, I'm looking to upgrade my current Circ Polariser which is a Hoya Pro1 I believe, are there any that are better than this that give better results?

In the meantime, I'll keep searching and see if I can find anything else.

Firstly, thank you for the quick reply.

This was going to be my second question. I realise that I'll need a holder and wasn't too sure how it all works. I take it the adapter fits on first, then the filters holder screws onto that, then the filters just drop in?

This will all be going on my 18-70 (67mm). Are there any good places online you could recommend?

Would I notice much of a difference going from my Hoya CPL to a Hoya Pro1 CPL (which has DMC and other benefits)?

What is the benefit of DMC?

Proven, or just a marketing thing?

Answer that one, and you'll know if its an upgrade :)

As far as I know, mine isn't multi-coated so the chances of more glare and reflections are higher.

However, I see what you're saying. My problem is I've had to suggest something as a gift for my 26th Birthday on Wednesday and this is within budget (whilst I'd love to suggest the 17-55 f2.8 I think it'd fall on deaf ears).

So it's not just sunrise/sunset etc.
 
yeah, thats right. The not-so-neutral-Cokin-NDs are RUBBISH! Not worth it at all. I'm looking to getting better filters myself. I find the Cokin wide-angle holder quite nice but they're glass isn't worth a penny.

I'd like to get Lee filters: really expensive but I don't doubt they're quality. Not sure what I'm going to do next as I also want a B+W 10 stop screw-in filter....it's a toughy, alright!
 
anybody know if you can use the cheaper (Kood) adaptor ring with the cokin filter holder ? I already have a 67cm adapter, but need a different size for my other lens, and the kood ring is about a tenner cheaper.

I have a Hoya Pro1 CPL and see no real need to upgrade it. It has seven coatings on the rear surface and while this is only a guess I would say that the DMC labelled version is the same thing just with Digital tagged on to the name, as everything must have these days.

much cheapness...

just bought hitech ND grads for 40 quid ish from team photo
then a £4 cokin P holder from ebay, that's a 67mm screw filtting with the holder.
bargain,.
not the best quality holder but fine for my learning curve.
 
Cokin are shocking, any one fancy buying a P-series ND grad kit.:D

Note to self. Must review sales technique.
