Hi folks

I would like to buy some filters to use with a Nikon 16-35 f4 lens on a D4 body, ive been looking at the Cokin range but unsure if the P series is suitable for a 16mm lens at 16mm. Seems to be some conflicting views when looking online.
Also if i wanted to have a 10 stop ND and also a grad to control the sky how would i do it, is it a case of getting 2 filters and stacking them ?

Thanks

The D4 is Full Frame, so I would be surprised if a P series filter would be large enough at 16mm - you probably need 100mm filters (Lee, Hitech, etc).

Filter holders typically hold 1-3 filters so you can stack them - this is where more expensive filters that a closer to being genuinely neutral are an advantage, as any colour cast will be worse once you start to stack filters.

Just to add to that some (like the Cokin) have a slot for a poloriser so you have the poloriser + three or however many slots. Cokin also do a slim line with less slots, the advantage being that it may get in the way less, other makes possibly have slim line holders too and these may be worth thinking about if you don't want to stack quite so many.

The Lee system allows the user to build the holder as deep as they want/need it while the Cokin is moulded plastic. Almost certainly cheaper to have 2 or 3 Cokin holders cut down to 1/2/3 slots to avoid vignetting.

I can only see sense for ND filters and CPL any others are not needed as they can all be done in Post, since digital that's all I have and as my lens are all 72mm fits all. AS for grads well OK if you have a flat horizon but mots of the time you haven't so you darken foreground items, not what you want.
