Yes
which one i know everyone will say the lee big stopper is there an alternative?

I used to have the B&W but dropped it :-( Got a Heliopan to replace it. Both are pretty good.

There are many screw in filters I use Heliopan but as Barry says B&W are also reputedly very good, you pays yer money and takes yer choice.

There is usually a long wait when ordering the B+W 10 stop, i waited 10 weeks as demand is high. well worth the wait. it's the No1, i think you'll find the LEE is the alternative ! have a goosle :)

I too have the B+W. It's certainly not as quick to use as the slide in Lee, however, the price difference and the fact I don't use it all that often means I can live with that.

or if you want square and cheaper than the Lee, theres always the hitech.......not sure how good they are though.

I too have the new Hitech one. I am going do do a comparison between it and my Big Stopper.

Does anyone here use welding glass? I'm far too cheap to invest in an actual system and was curious as to how the results from welding glass look/what using it is like :)

It would be nice to:
- compose
- focus
- slide in filter
- shoot
- slide out filter
- repeat above

...but then as you say, I don't use the ND enough to warrant the Lee. Aside from the addition of screw in, screw out, I'm happy with the B+W

In decent light liveview can greatly assist in the process. That is if you have it. 1DsII and A900 don't, but something like 5DII or 1D3 do.

I've heard LightCraft Workshop being mentioned somewhere but I have no idea if they're any good. I'm looking for one as well. B+W seems to be most recommended here.

What if I were to upgrade the lens on a later date which has a different thread size? Means I have to sell and buy again? Or could I just buy a filter with a large filter size and use an adaptor? Would that affect IQ?

Interesting.. Wouldn't that soften the image by quite a bit?

At last a reallistic comment on welding glass, it amazes me that people will spend hundreds and thousands of pounds on bodies and lenses, agonise on the effects of UV filters, deride cheaper filter manufacturers products for colour cast etc then willingly degrade their IQ with a piece of coloured float glass that will have all sorts of flaws in it will have variable thickness across it's width (in the context of even a cheap lens optics) Still it takes all sorts:cuckoo:

I think this is the first instance when I've found myslef vaguely interested in having LV. I still wouldn't swap the MASSIVE A900 viewfinder prism for any space towards LV though...
