Are they always slow? Applied nearly a fortnight ago and am still awaiting the phone call/email to discuss whatever the hell it is they feel they couldn't have asked me on a webpage.

The state their in you'd think they'd be eager to get some more small business on board to line up and bend over...

Used many banks and have to Barclays are excellent. Great app too. Nationwide are ok but hsbc seem to be years behind. Shocking.

I have business accounts with HSBC & Santander, I would not recommend either, I am looking to shift to another bank, but having said that ALL banks are sh1te!.

I had a large sum of cash that I wanted to pay into my HSBC account on a Saturday. When I opened the account many years ago I was told that a debit card was not an option for the account, it did'nt bother me until I tried to pay in the cash, HSBC refused to take the cash on a Saturday to pay into my account without a debit card! I wrote a letter of complaint and after a really sickly bum-lick 'manager' rang me to discuss I now have said debit card to pay cash in on a Saturday, I also have application forms for Barclays.

Been with NatWest business banking for around six years. That is neither a recommendation or a criticism.

You get allocated a business manager who in my case would love me if I took loans, credit card machines etc etc.

However, my business didn't want any of that even at the start. I am there to make money for my business not there's, which is a concept he doesn't seem able to grasp very well.

In fact I now use a PayPal credit card machine which I recharge the PP fees out and avoid the reoccurring monthly charges from NW.

Most of my business is with clients who pay by BT so we both avoid the charges.

As it is, my business manager is never, ever, ever , available even on his mobile and is quite frankly pants. So I pretend he isn't there and that works fine.

The rest of it is fairly painless, branch staff at a number of branches I use, admin, statements etc all ok.

If you need a replacement card that can take a couple of weeks and if they make a cock up on processing you get the usual banal call centre crap. Just keep asking for the next manager above them until you get what you want.

By the way, no banks have learnt any lessons since the 2008 crash and still operate in their own little world. When the Govt took over it would have been a great opportunity to make them break out, open 7am to 7pm 7 days a week and move out of the 19th century Mary Poppins banking era.....but no.

Too many vested interests.

Dont forget that Barclays is basically a Middle East owned / financed bank (correct me if I am wrong), Yorkshire Bank / Clydesdale are Australian owned with a lot of Far Eastern capital, Santander is predominantly owned/controlled by one Spanish family and the rest (LBG/ Halifax / Bank of Scotland / Lloyds etc ) the Government are keen to offload to the highest bidder. Oh and Dickie Pickles Virgin lot bought what was left of Northern Rock.

And the wide boys in the City are too addicted to gambling. They make William Hill and Ladbrokes look like amateurs.

Co-Op through the FSB. Free banking and they pay a small sum each year as a loyalty bonus. IIRC you can pay into Post Offices if you don't have a Co-Op branch locally.

I'm only going down the Natwest route since they have the best offers on for business accounts, and the branch staff here are decent. If they don't make contact Monday they can forget it though.

shreds I'm quite tempted by the Paypal card reader too, though I haven't as yet really investigated my options yet. So far everything's been purchased online and gone through paypal so I haven't needed cheque or manual card detial entry, though I would like to get them both in place ready.
