Hi

I am just looking for some clarification on the above terminology. Am I correct in thinking that natural speculative light would be sunshine, as able to be reflected on my subject?

Also would diffused natural light therefore be a cloudy day?

May seem a little obvious, but I have two books here with slightly contradictory opinions...any clarification would be great. The shots I require are of a portrait nature.

Thanks!

As a starting point yes, I think you are correct. But there is more to it as like everything in life...

I think I'm right in saying that a speculative highlight is any point of light or light source that is as bright or brighter than your main intended light source..

Specular light is direct light, e.g. not diffused light.
A specular highlight is a reflection of a light source
Speculative light is a bit of a gamble, probably the name of a horse running in the 3.30...
