This ticks the box for win.

Not easy to compose, I suspect. But you have the triangle from the booklet that point into the photograph. The top 3 die draw attention back to the pad and nice amount of dead space on the right.

I think I'd like to see all the die in focus because they are integral to the photograph, minor point but....

Hi just catching up, money i like, but would have liked to have seen a bit more of the money and less of the bag

Andy, the very first thing I did was take a few shots at a smaller aperture, because I thought maybe the dice all needed to be in focus to make this work, but what that did was make the photo very flat, ie there was no sense depth. I moved the dice around a lot, mostly at random, and in some a few more (but never all) were completely in focus. Personally I prefer this frame, where only one of them is.
 
I think you have got the composition spot on as with the DOF too and the yellow background really gives it a punch.
There are some really good and unexpected shots this week and this is up there with them. :clap:

my only slight ,really small , minuet OCD niggle...... the paper ....not quite right in the corner of the shot where it leads in bottom left ....getting me coat :lol:
 
Neat idea and doesn't look staged the way you have laid them out to me. Excellent choice of background colour too. Well done. ;)
 
Thanks, all. :) It's definitely grown on me. This seems to happen a lot with the challenge photos; I'm less than thrilled immediately after capturing and processing them, but then a few days later, I'm generally quite pleased with them. Obviously there are exceptions (Secure springs to mind!)... The feedback I get here plays a part of course, but it's just as much about letting the photos kind of 'settle'. And yes I'm aware that probably sounds a little :cuckoo: Anyway, it happens less frequently with my normal photography, where I usually know straight away if I like something or not.

Not generally a fan of shiny things, whether they be jewelry or something else, I don't own many items that could be used to fit this week's theme. It was either this cheap ring or the toaster!

I wanted a clean background, a decent reflection and reasonable depth of field. This turned out to be easier said than done... The hardest was getting both 'flowers' in focus. I would have liked the top stone to catch the light too but ah well. In theory I still have another week to try and find something fun to shoot to fit the theme, but I've got other things I need to focus on next week and wanted to submit my entry today.
 
Another good 'shiny' entry, love the reflection :thumbs:
 
Hi Nat,

Glad you didn't go for the toaster, I think this is a much more interesting image. Like shallow depth of field and focus on the flowers. The shiny reflective background is a nice touch too :thumbs:
 
jewelry is harder than you'd think, I had similar problems with my wedding rings. you have done well tho' :clap:

I have very little experience using off camera flash... It is definitely something I need to try and get my head around!

My first attempt at photographing the ring was made using natural light only. The sunlight made the ring really shine and the stones sparkle, but I had problems with the reflection; instead of one clear, defined reflection I had two or three overlapping and it looked a bit of a mess. Anyway, since this was a first for me (shooting a reflection) I'm pretty pleased with the result! :)
 
Wonderful shot for shiny. Nothing else to say!
 
I like win for its simplicity and well captured.
Jewellery can be very difficult, well shot and on theme

Win - super colour rendition. I like the composition, the odd number of dice and the introduction of the corner of the scorecard.

Shiny - right on theme but as you appreciate, perhaps there needs to be more of a highlight by way of flash(?) . Good composition though, with the reflection and the crisp focus
 
As others have said really don’t think there is too much wrong with it :thumbs:

I used a mirror to get the reflection and the background came out silvery rather than white, though it was possible to get it to look almost white in PP without affecting the rest of the image too much. I thought because I'd already done a few white BG:s I'd stick with this, but I'll upload a white version for you to look at in a minute.
