Its one of those places that's on the doorstep but hardly ever visited. I live 1 mile from Longleat and have only been once in 15 years (other than for fishing) and in the same period still haven't walked round Stonehenge despite it being less than 20 miles from home! Really need to get out more!

Does anyone know how memberships work where both the NT and EH are involved? For example (although free), I see Kennet Longbarrow is "owned" by EH and manged by the NT. Are there any others like this that people know of and if they charge can you be a member of either to gain access? Or would you need to be a member of whoever owns it, or whoever maintains it?

I think generally members of either get access .. although it does vary from place to place (NT membership won't get you into an EH run attraction in the middle of a trust site for example - as with stonehenge where EH run the stones but the trust owns much of the surrounding land. (its easy to check any specific attraction on the trust or EH websites)
In the case of West Kennet Long barrow its free to all anyway (be aware that parking is an arse - you are better off parking in the ridgeway carpark on the otherside of the A4 and walking down)

We have Hardwick Hall not far away - the old hall (ruins) is EH and the New Hall is NT. Members of either are allowed access to both.

The last time we went to Stonehenge, we got in for free with our NT tickets. It does however vary from place to place.

Same for my family last year, though we recently also joined EH too as we were visiting a number of their sites in quick succession where NT membership made no difference.
For a number of years after I moved back to England I did mantain my CADW membership from when I was a student in Cardiff, which got me into EH sites.

All the major NT locations near me have a separate charge for parking AND an entrance fee to the property itself (and yes, the car parks are NT owned). Stourhead, Lacock etc.
Our NT passes pay for themselves in the parking charges saved alone, let alone the entrance fees.

tthats a reasonably recent change - its because a lot of people park to use the parks , and the tearooms etc if they are outside the pay boundary , and the carparks still need maintenance regardless of where the wear and tear comes from

To further muddy the waters:
Tatton Hall, Park and Gardens are owned by NT but managed by Cheshire County Council (Cheshire something or other these days, as the county is a dogs dinner now).
NT members have to pay for parking but not for access to the hall or gardens. Everyone else has to pay for 'everything'.
There is also a farm part but I've no idea who 'charges' for that.....if you've gone in the car then you'll have paid for parking.
