If anyone is interested and most are, of the history of WWI which still holds many secrets. I have just read from August 2014 National Geographic, " The Hidden World of the Great War" by Evan Hadingham with photographs by Jeffrey Gusky. As Evan discovers the lost underground of WWI, he walks along side his tour guide and caretaker of these hidden places. Evan turns to the caretaker as he locks the gates, Evan asks, "why a quarry filled with American names is so important to him ", He reflects for a second then replies,
" By reading the names of the men down there, we make them live again just for a moment".......
The images are well worth a view...
