Nat West computer glitch

Interesting chats in he media today about the thousands of sophisticated hacks attempted on all banks every day, this is, they suggest, the age where organised crime now do an armed robbery in a virtual world, and banks have to fight off this stuff every day.

Who knows, but six days, they sure had some big problems.

I'm with RBS, and my wages didnt apear in my account this mornig grrrrrr, but after a lengthy phone call they've assured me everything will be back to normal tomorrow and that i can access my wages:bonk:

if those are true then RBS deserve everything they get. i had friends get shafted by HP when they outsourced to india.

although it wouldnt be hard for a disgruntled employee about to get the boot to firebomb a system like that. shedule in a task to do some damage, name it something inconspicuous or add it to a current task batch in a few months..

Dear Lord - that easy? Could be more disruption in the pipeline then? :suspect:

How many of you who are moaning (quite rightly) about this are going to switch banks from this? I am sure there will be plenty across the country, a PR nightmare.

I'll be leaving them, but not because of this. I'll be leaving solely because of their utterly ridiculous, GIGANTIC calculator thing that you have to carry around for Internet payments. I saw people with the HSBC one and felt like I was stuck in the stone age, can't be having that.

However I've been with NatWest since the dawn of time, and haven't had a single issue with them until now. However their timing is terrible, as I'm out of the country on business. Glad I got some cash out and have $800 in my pocket. I'm sure that after this, NatWest will actually be the most secure, as something like this will surely put new processes and procedures in place to prevent it from happening again. At least, that's what you'd hope would happen...

Yeah super easy, discussed the theory of it several times in our IT dept and it wouldnt take much effort at all. but you'd hope that people leaving the company were removed from sensitive systems as soon as they're notified.

...that doesn't stop those with a bit of knowledge leaving a hard-to-spot backdoor

true. how many people change the domain admin pass when a member of IT leaves.. even guessing a member of staffs password for remote access is easy in some instances (everyone knows someone who uses "password1", "password2", "password3" etc).

My NatWest account is back in order this morning so hopefully everyone else is ok as well?

Lol, wait until you go to HSBC, you'll have a slightly smaller calculator thing required just to LOG IN to your HSBC account to check your balance. I left them for this reason. How it actually adds any safety when you're required to carry it around with you and it's marketed as being 'small enough to fit in your wallet'. I'm sure that's fantastic if you lose your wallet :bang:

Clydesdale doesn't have any of that

mobile app doesnt need the keypad thing, but has limited functionality.

doesnt matter if you carry it around, you still need your x digit code to generate the number. its more to stop people using stupidly easy passwords etc.

It's still a massive PITA if I just want to check my balance. To be honest though I've had a pretty negative experience of HSBC all round at that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

I've has to lend my sons money and pay bills for them from my non tw@ west account
fortunately not all my eggs are in one basket

mobile app needs a 6 digit passcode (not from the pin device) to view your balance :) but fair enough, been with them 15 years now and not had any major bother.

It's a disgrace and anyone affected should be compensated accordingly. They are quick enough to charge when customers make a mistake.
.
Indeed agreed 100%!
