Hello

im after a general purpose storage facility
i have looked at NAS (cheaper) but also servers (needs special expensive drives) (unless diy)
but i have also seen you can build diy ones

i have found a 3TB HDD that i would use but probably have 4 (in time) and either have a copy on each drive or dual them to have different stuff on each

also i have 2 SSD's and a HDD in my pc at the moment
but i cannot access one of the ssd's as it says it is in reserve and does not show out side the BIOS
i want to give them a complete format and reinstall the OS and all programes as CS6 is running sluggish
(will this affect the CS6 Bridge libary on the HDD)

thank you to all that can help

Windows Home Server 2011 on an HP Proliant N40L micro server. You can do this for under 200quid. Fill full of cheap drives...!

thank you will look into it
can i run things like CS6 from the server or should i just keep it to the main pc?

WHS 2011 should be used as a server only. It actively discourages local log on.

Definately have a look at the Microserver (there's a big thread in this section on them).

A true server should be just that, a completely separate machine for serving data and not for user apps such as CS.

ok was just wondering
does it work with the bridge though that puts the files in to folders and keeps them sorted?

As a side note, server approach is preferable to NAS if you want to use Windows Music library on network storage. Won't index on my Synology 214, need a win server to do it.
