Namllihs' 52 (Art.)

Sorry - I've only just found your thread. You have some great shots here - Street and Speed are terrific.

"People" - the arrangement of the brightly coloured riders interspersed with the two men in black, all receding into the back of the ?shed is very good. The patterns on the glove in front of the nearest rider's face confuses that whole part, a bit like dazzle camouflage, and adds a slightly surreal touch - I love it!

:clap::clap:

I'll make a mental note not to go and try togging round the highcross then :(

Nice people shot - love the expression on the guy on the left
Cheers, to be fair to the security guy he was very polite and said if I was to ask for permissiion in future it would be O/K.

Steve, a good take on both present and people. Love the people shot... good colours, and agree with Nick about that expression.
Thank you, Iwas going to clone that guy out but decided against it.

I love the idea for present Steve. Really well thought out and nicely shot.
I agree with the comments about it needing something else to make it a bit more “oomphy” – I’m just not sure what. Maybe some fridge magnets or something like that?
It definitely has potential as a concept though. If we get a reshoot week, I’d love to see this explored a bit more.

Speedway is all a bit of a mystery to me I’m afraid, so I’m really not sure what’s going on in your people shot (I’m being a bit thick!)
Good colours and plenty to look at though, so it gets a  from me.
Thanks, the riders were at the pit gate ready to go onto the track to race.

Thanks, the dazzle is caused by the high viz retroreflective materials in kit and it is a little bright where it reflected the flash back.

Right I am off to find something mechanical for this weeks shot:)

love the expression on the guy on the left

I have to agree! PMSL! If it wasn't for his expression I'd find the shot rather boring, albeit colourful. :)

Mechanical. I had to get the old Meccano set out for this shot (Still playing with it now :) )

It's bright and colourful Steve, but far too much going on for my eyes to take in. Your little construction is a little bit lost :)

bright vivid colours, works well on the white background.. good interpretation of the theme

That works very well and is great for the theme. How did you get time to process and post it ?? I'd have been hooked

Nice lighting on your image, the colours really pop out too.
I thought of meccano for this weeks theme but I...ahem sorry my kids have the new style which is plastic and not as good as the old stuff:D

Thanks all.
Yes the old style Meccano is by far the best, mine is about 30 years old, I got it for my 2 sons, but they hardy ever played with it and it sat in the box for years.

Like the mechanical shot, the colours are really punchy, just a shame the reflective surface has bounced a bit of the flash.

Good work

I like this bright colourful shot!

Phil

love it its got great bright colours in it really effective

Many thanks for the comments.

This is a macro shot of the Play button on my remote control unit, taken with my home made macro lens ( a Canon 35-80 with the front element removed )

Hi Steve,

If that's one of those teeny, tiny remote control buttons that's pretty impressive for a home made macro - very close up and very sharp

I'm not sure that it's really doing much for me as an image . . . although I've now scrolled back for another look 3 times, so it can't be that bad!
It could definitely do with either a straighten or more rotation so that it's at a definite angle. I think my vote would go to straighten on this particular one.

Cheers Sarah, I realise that it is not very apealling as an image but I was stuck for ideas (that's my excuse anyway :))

I do have some different shots on the same subject which I will ahve another look at, and I will see how this one looks when straightened.

Mechanical. I had to get the old Meccano set out

Old? Looks like you went and brought a brand new set! :suspect:

I'm afraid play really is not working for me in the slightest. I might be missing something really skilled and technical, but as an image it just isn't holding up. At the very least it wants to be straight. I think I'd have tried firing a flash horizontally across it too, to bring out some texture in the button.

..........................
The Meccano is 25+ years old, I never let the kids play with it much

O/K I will try something completely different. My Grandaughter Naomi at play in the garden. No I did not turn the hosepipe on.

Steve... with a homemade macro kit, it looks like a small button, that's come out nicely, but it's not really doing much for me beyond that. The second image however is far better. Lovely.

Cheers John.

Week 10 Chemistry.
Some of the drugs I am currently taking.

Nice and clean and simple. The shadows add a much needed depth but the light is a little harsh on the top. Might have been good to go for a smaller aperture to get all the writing in focus.

Another with the homemade macro?

It's nice and crisp with a good clean background and I think the colours have come out well.
I agree with Darren on the DoF though. Just a little too narrow so that you're losing the clarity on the writing.

In fact, since the tablet at the front has been singled out in the composition I'd quite like to see that as the main focal point.

You're getting brilliant results from that macro though.

p.s. I love the second shot for "play" - very sweet.
(I think I might have been tempted with that hose pipe though )

Sarah has beaten me to it again ... I really like it, the shadows help... although they look rather large to be taking them easily...

I wonder what it would look like with the pills taken across the diagonal.. putting the single on the lower third and the treo on the upper third...

Thanks Darren, I will give this a try with a smaller aperture as suggested.

Thanks Sarah, it took a lot of willpower not to turn on the hose :)
The macro is great but the DOF is very minimal.

Cheers John, I will try out this idea.

Candid, I've not been able to get out this week due to illness so I have trawled my old shots for this one. This is the last shot I took on my Fuji bridge camera as I purchased a DSLR 30 minutes later. Taken outside of an art exhibition in Melbourne.

I like that one. Touch of mystery about it.

Looks like some Monet painting

 I really like that!
In fact I think it's my favourite candid this week!

No doubt at all about it fitting the theme, but a totally different approach to it.
The colours are fantastic - both in the background and in what she's wearing. It was a really good spot and you've ended up with a very artistic image.

It may be a slight cheat posting an old image, but I don't care because I love it

I really like this photo, the colours really make it stand out :)

Nice shot very colorful.

Thanks,I did boost the contrast and colour from the original shot

ohh, like that.. it does look like a painting.. great colours!
Thank you.

 I really like that!

Many thanks and I am Glad you like it Sarah and I appreciate the comment.
Out of all the street and candid shots I have done this one is still my favourite.

Arrggh - I've just done a major catch up on your thread, Steve, and managed to 'lose' it :bang:

I'll start again!

Present: I like the philosophy behind the words you were reading and the calendar makes a very graphical representation. A thoughtful take on the theme. :)

People: Wow, that guy in the foreground has eye-watering leathers! I like the contrast between him, the other riders and the 2 guys in normal clothes.

Mechanical: Snap! I did Meccano for this one, too. Mr JG is trying to collect a Set 10 of vintage Meccano - he says it's for the grandchildren. Yours looks all bright and well-cared for! :D

Play, Shot #1: Well done on getting such a good macro on this one (although I agree with the comments on rotating it slightly). You've brought out really detailed texture - in fact, it looks almost sponge-like. I like the simple graphic quality.

Shot #1: What can I say - she's a gorgeous little girl. How can you even think about turning the hose on. :bat::bat::bat: I love the absorbed expression on her face - definitely one for the family album. :)

Chemistry: The trouble with responding late to threads is that everybody has already said everything! So I can't really add anything to the comments, except to say I hope those pills are doing their job properly for you. :)

Candid: This is intruiging, and very impressionist. It might be an old photo, but it's still most definitely a good 'un.

Jean

:clap: Steve, that's a wonderful image, very Candid and mysterious. Excellent work a big  from me.

Thanks Lizbeth, Jean & John your comments are much appreciated.

I am just hoping for some inspiration as I cannot think of a decent shot for this weeks theme.:shake:

Really struggled for something original and failed miserably, so went for the obvious type of subject. It feels a bit cluttered to me but as it was a market stall I was unable to pose the subject.
