I was taking some shots for my 365 and thought I could adapt this for the themed 52. so here we go, I hope I can keep both going all year.

thats different.. not sure about the background cut out bit.. striking image though.. will ponder on it ;)

Hmm... interesting image Steve... Not sure on this one for me. It is very different though... I'll come back and have another look.

Cheers John, I must admit I liked it when it was first done and am now thinking maybe a simpler image would have been better.

Hi Steve - Good luck doing a 52 and 365.
The 52 on its own was enough for me last year

Very creative - I'm swinging between loving the blue cut-out and wishing that it was just on a plain white BG. Can't quite make up my mind.
I really like the main image of the guitar though. Very nice depth of colour to it. Only minor niggle is that it looks like there are some smeary fingerprints on it . . . could maybe have done with a bit of a polish before the shot  :p

Is the guitar distorted? It just looks a little weird to me. Sorry but I really don't like the blue cut out to be honest. I'm also sure this item would be strong enough to work without it.

Doesn't work for me I'm afraid. The guitar just looks too flat and distorted. Sorry :)

Well it's certainly curved and you've got very creative for the week. I don't think it's worked quite as well as it could have done, I think the problem for me is the lack of any 3rd dimension and the distortion on the guitar. The other area I think lets it down is the finger marks which have been highlighted by the flash near the socket. However, I think you deserve credit for trying something different, it's the only way we really learn so

I really hope you can keep this going for the full 52 as I'm sure you will produce some really great images as the year progresses

Hmm, this just doesn't look right to me. It's like the guitar is a cutout picture and it's two dimensional.

Oh... just noticed others have already said that. I agree. :D

I like it . You could have gone further and PP'ed the guitar to look more graphic. I agree about the need for cleaning it, though :).

Mmmm - a bit of a Marmite shot, it seems from earlier comments. :)

I think it's reminiscent of a 1950s sheet music cover (showing my age!) The distortion/perspective looks very retro and with slightly more muted colours I could see it on a front cover.

Steve, you must be the bravest person on tp - a 365 AND a 52! :notworthy:
Good luck. :)

A Permanent Way
W.H. Auden

Self-drivers may curse their luck,
Stuck on new-fangled trails,
But the good old train will jog
To the dogma of its rails,

And steam so straight ahead
That I cannot be led astray
By tempting scenes which occur
Along my permanent way.

Intriguing dales escape
Into hills of the shape I like,
Though, were I actually put
Where a foot-path leaves the pike

For some romantic spot,
I should ask what chance there is
Of a least a ten-dollar cheque
Or a family peck of a kiss:

But, forcibly held to my tracks,
I can safely relax and dream
Of a love and a livelihood
To fit that wood or stream;

[FONT=&quot]And what could be greater fun,
Once one has chosen and paid,
Than the inexpensive delight
Of a choice one might have made?

Yep, works for me... a very strong composition in the image that fits nicely with the Poem...

Week 1 - Doesn't really work for me, I think its the blue cut out
Week 2 - Really good photo that fits the poem well

great pic that fits well with the poem

I like your efforts in week 1, although I wonder if it would look better with the guitar flat and the blue shadow distorted instead.

Week 2 is perfect for me as a fan of railways... I wanted to use W H Auden's Night Train, but couldn't get into gear to get to the local station at god knows what time to see the mail train...!

I like the rail one but I wonder if it would have been slightly better if the rails in the foreground had started in the middle??? It may be that you have purposely offset this to the left but it looks a little unbalanced to me, with the first tree on the left being partially out of frame whist the first tree on the right is all in frame with room to spare.

Catching up after missing a couple of weeks.

Chopped.
From a walk in the local woods.

Now need to get out and get this weeks shot:)

Speed. A fairground ride.

Well done for catching up, i'm still 1 week behind! I love the DOF on Chopped and the motion blur on Speed but i think Street could do with a slightly wider field of view, include more of the street maybe? still a good shot though, well done!

Ooops - I need to catch up, too! :)

Poetry: I love the composition of this and the snow adds to the starkness on the rails. It's a good illustration of the poem, too. :)

Chopped: Lovely colours in the bark and lots of texture, too.

Street: I'd like to see a bit more of the street. too, but it's a natural, spontaneous-looking shot and fits the theme.

Speed: My favourite from this bunch. The colours are great and really add to the sense of movement and excitement. The two figures sitting watching add interest as well (I wonder why they remind me of the people who sat round the guillotine, knitting, during the French Revolution? :D )

Thanks for the comments, it was a bit of a struggle to catch up and now I am scratching my head to think of an image for this weeks theme.

Excellent on all three Steve, well done for catching up... I hate that ride... but you've captured it well.

Great catch up Steve - and sorry that I'm a bit late finding it.
3 very good shots.

Chopped : One of the better wood shots that we had that week. Lovely detail in the grain of the wood  Not sure that you need so much of the oof log in frame though - you could crop quite a bit off teh top and still keep some impact.

Street : A week I find hard to comment on. Nothing to do with your shot, but this type of photography isn't really my thing. Nicely captured though.

Speed : My favourite of the 3. Definitely fast and some great colours in it
Just a shame about that guy on the RHS.

Now where's present ? ;)

Thank you all for the comments, they are appreciated and all criticism is taken onboard.

I was really struggling with this one, then this morning as I was waiting for a blood test I saw this on the wall,
"The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present."

And this is my feeble attempt to portray this as an image.

Present.

Like the idea, cant help but think it looks bare though - maybe if there were other things in a calendar, but not focussed on or it was wrote in another colour so it stood out from less important things; dentist, vets, bills etc, or even perhaps if you had gone close on the three important dates.

just my thoughts ;)

Fair comment, I thought afterwards it needed a more lived in look, as you say a few more entries or notes and doodles.

People.
I thought this would be easy, just walk down the street and Bob's your uncle :nono:.
I was going to do a shot of shoppers in the Highcross shopping centre but security stepped in:thinking:.
So here we go with some speedway riders.

Steve, a good take on both present and people. Love the people shot... good colours, and agree with Nick about that expression.

I love the idea for present Steve. Really well thought out and nicely shot.
I agree with the comments about it needing something else to make it a bit more “oomphy” – I’m just not sure what. Maybe some fridge magnets or something like that?
It definitely has potential as a concept though. If we get a reshoot week, I’d love to see this explored a bit more.

Speedway is all a bit of a mystery to me I’m afraid, so I’m really not sure what’s going on in your people shot (I’m being a bit thick!)
Good colours and plenty to look at though, so it gets a  from me.
