I’m a bit of a dinosaur re technology and the web. I’m not on Face Book,Twitter, Whatsup, Instagram etc. When I go out to photograph birds/steam locos my wife insists I take her very old mobile phone. It’s very basic and now belongs in a museum but makes calls. Today she gave me a bang up to date Vodafone because the contract on that old one..3M..I think ..had expired and they increased the rental by 50%. I won’t give the number to anyone so I won’t get spam rubbish. I just do as I’ve done with the old one and say I don’t have a mobile. As with everyone, your mobile number is asked for by all sorts of business people. She‘s also added me to her RAC membership that she has for her car as repeated requests.pleas,really..that I get it have fallen on deaf ears, not least because I’ve never had a problem with my Prius..bar a key fob ( remote) failure one day. She worries about me when I go out to the likes of the Somerset Levels ..remote areas. I tend to put my trust in good fortune and ,so far, totally reliable car or is that tempting fate ?..lol.

So..I’ve chosen a background or as my wife calls it ‘wallpaper’and then she asked me what ring tone I want. We had a decorator here a couple of weeks ago and he has the RN ‘Heart of Oak’ ring. His daughter is in the RN and her husband serves on the new carrier..HMS Queen Elizabeth. I love military bands and really like Heart of Oak. When someone called him it made me want want to march.lol. but I’d like to have a march that I heard when I went to football matches as an 11/12 year old..Everton (Goodson Park) and Liverpool (Anfield) as most will know. I’ve spent quite a long time today trying to find out the name of it and I found it but it’s one of several on a YouTube clip and none are named. If anyone might know I’d really appreciate it if you could play this YouTube clip and the tune is at 25.21 minutes. It’s very recogniseable..well, to older members like me..lol.

It's called 'The Washington Post' by John Philip Sousa. The march starts at 24:10, the part you have highlighted is called The Trio (all marches have a Trio section, which is usually a bit quieter and 'smoother flowing' than the rest of the march - most marches also have a very rousing 'bass section'). It's a greast march, full of gusto and very upliftiong.

Many thanks, Jim..very much appreciated. (y) When my phone rings I’ll have to wait until after the intro before answering..lol.

I’m a big fan of military band music and ,as you say, it’s very uplifting. When it’s played in a town you’ll often see children..usually bots..lol.. pretending to march such is the effect. There’s another one I just can’t find and,of course, I’m unable to hum it to you..lol. I did come across what I think was the name but it doesn’t sound right..’ March by/past ..? of the Blackbirds...can’t be. As I found the one you’ve given me the name of maybe, if I keep listening to them, I’ll come across it and if there’s no name I’ll come back to you..lol . We now just have to see how we can get the Washington Post onto my new phone. Might have to go to the Vodafone shop in town where my wife bought it.

As an aside..as the YouTube (above) has two German officers in the car..front cover ..why that for British tunes..? Strange, I’m sure the YouTube I found it on had a fluttering Union Jack/Union flag...(just read about that)., ImGoogled forGerman military band music and I listened to a couple of theirs and they aren’t as good as ours ..not as much depth.

As a former military musician, of 20 years experience, I do like a good march! Some German marches are very good but, they can be an acquired taste ;)

Re marching through towns that should have read..boys not bots..lol.

20 years Experience ? Excellent. I’ve made a CD of my own music ..each note played..treble,bass,rythmn and drums using a Roland keyboard and an old Atari music computer which re-aligns the notes in synch. I can only read the treble cleff...slowly.lol. so it’s all by ear, sometimes there..lol. I learn my wife’s sheet music and commit to memory for pieces I really like eg.. the Moonlight , some not-so-difficult Elgar etc..by pencilling note names in the base, which I have a mental block on for some reason, of course, it annoys the heck out of her..lol. She’s grade 7 piano and has a few pupils.

If you google create a ring tone you should be able to make one without the intro.
