N900 v Google N1 v HD2

you had one ???
Im thinking about getting one or just wait for HTC Desire to be on market...
Where dod you get it ? frm US via google site ?

and why you havent try to sell it via TP ? ;)

Yup i had one, got it direct from Google. Ordered it on friday afternoon, delivered to me on Monday morning.

Sold it over on AVforums as they have a specific Mobiles forum there.

Didn't think of it like that, I thought you were being one of those people that can't see how someone would upgrade from an iPhone to anything but an iPhone (heaven forbid!).

Also for those interested Windows Phone 7 (WM7) has just been previewed and it looks a cracker! The HD2 is apparently officially going to be upgraded to it and it will almost certainly have a beta version flashed on to it in the next few months...

It officially won't.

It's been announced that ANY mobile running winmo 6.5 won't be able to upgrade to Winmo 7.

Of course, that's officially. XDA developers may have other ideas!

Where is that information from? There has been a lot of tooing a froing from various outlying sections of the big companies. Some saying yes and some saying no.

I'll wait and see what Microsoft say at their next conference about WP7s which is some time this month as all the microsoft head office has said is that further information about the HD2 and WP7s is going to be released then (which is technically the only official official info on it). :)

Either way i'm still a bit miffed with all these yes and nos going around at the moment and tbh as you said XDA will get it stuck on the HD2 either way.

EDIT: Just read the story on Znet. That sounds very omonous and far more official than the rest of the releases. Still confused as to why microsoft themselves would say wait until their next conference though...

They were saying previously that it would be down to HTC to decide yes or no, at the end of they day its HTC's sales that will be affected or not affected by allowing the upgrade, not Microsofts, as a lot of folk have said though it could be 2 years until WM7 is actually a mature enough OS, look how long its taken Android to become truly mainstream and the iPhone OS wasn't exactly truly lauded until the iPhone 3G was released.

Had a read through and a few folks are saying that the N900 is a terrible phone.

Yes it is. Think of it more as a mobile PC with a phone attached and you'll realise how brilliant this bit of kit is. iPhone beater, definately.

I upgraded a few weeks ago and got the iPhone 3GS 16GB. It was terrible, like every other Apple product that I've tried/tested/owned. It just felt like an overpriced polished turd. Sorry, descriptive words fail me today :(

I returned it and got the Nokia N900. This is were it's at. It's specification is similar to the iPhone, similiar processor speeds, screen resolutions, memory etc but the possibilities are endless. There's loads of development going on and the Maemo OS is pretty cool. Does feel a little like work in progress but they're getting there. www.maemo.org - loads of news and loads of apps, which are free and can be downloaded from the phone via repositories (none of this installing iTunes to be able to do anything).

I highly recommend it.

I've decided to stick with my HD2 for the time being as I've grown to like it a lot more, although I wish the battery was better, as it seems WM7 will not be available I may sell it and try out something Android, probably the Bravo or Desire, that said I was very tempted to try the N900.

What sort of stuff have you got running on the N900? Finding the HD2 battery horrendous but a cracking device, felt that the N900 wasn't worth it with Maemo being discontinued but it seems MeeGo is going to be released for N900 so I could maybe swap my HD2 for an N900.

I have a Nexus one, it's a very good phone although soon to be trumped by the HTC Desire (Which IMO will be worth waiting for).

Battery life is about 2 days of steady use. For me that is plenty of text messaging, a reasonable amount of 3g network hammering along with a few apps I have running that do regular network sync. Phonecalls hardly use any power (Although I get excellent reception where I mainly use the device) - could easily talk for hours.

I tend to charge every night as I have the charging dock but a single day use will take the battery from 100% to 60%. Overnight on standby will leave it showing 90% in the morning.

My friend had an N900 before buying the nexus one and the battery life on that was not much more than a day of similar usage.
