So, I'll be making my debut with a group of friends in August, my mode of transport whilst I'm there; my trusty Specialized Hybrid bicycle :)

I'll only be there for a couple of days, I understand there's a nice cycle route I can bimble along with my camera in a backpack, picking points to photograph the chaps on track at various points over the weekend.

What I'm wondering is; is there much point in taking my rig over there? There's plenty of space in the van and would like to see what I can rig over there if I get chatting with folks driving something tasty. Now obviously I won't be doing that on the track, but wondered if anyone with any knowledge of the track and surrounding area might be able to suggest a relatively nice looking, quiet location or two I can rig up a car for a quite rolling shot or two? Even better if it looks like it might actually be on track itself.

Input appreciated.

Thanks

Tom

Last time I was there they had banned on vehicle/in vehicle cameras.. Something to do with fatalities being filmed and put on YouTube and other social media....

But the surrounding roads can be almost as much fun! Enjoy watching and cycling round there!

Don't worry, not even entertaining the idea of doing anything like that on the track!

It's very much surrounding areas I'm interested in. Just looking on Google Earth, seems some of the surrounding roads have rumble strips on bends, so potentially I could do a couple shots off track, that look like they were done on track.

Lots of very picturesque, twisty back roads in the area. You may get some good shots up by the F1 circuit with the very large 'Nurburgring' illuminated sign in the back ground.

There are absolutely loads of really good roads in and around the 'ring. Adenau in particular has many great roads leading out of it. Choose your time of day, and you'll likely find a nice quiet road within a 10km radius easily enough. The beauty of rigging (and for that matter, tracking) over there is the road surfaces tend to be super smooth, which helps enormously. Being a mountainous region, you'll find plenty of gradient to help your car roll too.

From memory of my last trip (2008), as mentioned above, there's plenty of local roads with fantastic scenery around the area. All filming is (supposedly) banned whilst on track and they do check cars and ask you to remove any cameras they find.
Enjoy yourself - its a fantastic place that I really want to visit again.

PS - if you can find the track through the woods that leads to the outside of the Karussel you should get some good shots - the inside isn't as good ;)

If you end up going round the track in a car - be careful - it really is a hard track and accidents to happen
