Like an absolute dolt I allowed my PC to be infected with this hideous thing. Does anyone have a cast iron removal protocol before I just reformat? There are dozens of versions online.

Running win7 64x
 
If it was that simple I wouldn't be asking on here ;)
 
IE allows you to disable and remove toolbars in its addon CP.

Failing that as Neil says Malwarebytes.
 
I assume nobody has direct experience of this virus then because it's the most difficult to remove I've seen. It isn't a normal toolbar at all. I've removed every trace I can find and it still has a hold of all my browsers.

Malwarebytes didn't remove it. :)

Technically it's not a virus.. :)

Could try spybot. Or a registry scan for anything relevant.
 
Hijack This may well do it.
 
I'd consider that a viable option.;)
 
"Cast iron method" :shrug: without having access to and knowing your setup?
If you are not prepared to try some options I doubt it'll go away - don't have to mess up your registry and it is something that you can backup..
 
I think if you want guarantees it's reformat time, although a restore to before the unhappy day may do the trick.

Tried that. This thing is sucky big stylee. I'll just reformat.
 
If it doesn't run in safe mode malwarebytes will probably nuke it in safe mode.

Guys, thanks for all the input, it's appreciated, but I am going to reformat now. It's a bit of a ballache, but worth it for peace of mind.
