I've decided to take a day off work every week to go somewhere that isn't just my town and take loads of pictures. This week I left it a bit late with thinking about it so just ended up going to Coventry city centre and having a bit of a wander around.

I was severely disappointed with how few pictures I took, and didn't think any were useful... However, I managed to save a few and don't think they look too bad considering I didn't think I had anything.

This was my first attempt at panning, I know it's not great but I didn't think it was too bad :)

C&C welcome, and there's a few more pictures on flickr.

You set yourself a pretty high standard, I like most of those.

Ambitious goal. Nice set of images. Well exposed. B&W conversions are really good. The view looking down is a bit busy but I like the composition. Lovely colours in the colour shots and nice detail. Keep it up. Looking forward to next weeks instalment. Any ideas on the location

Thanks for all the positive feedback! Yeah, I do set myself high standards... It's a bit annoying really! I always like the ones that other people don't though :cuckoo:

I'm not sure where I'm going next week yet, any suggestions?

What about the same distance as Coventry is away from you but another direction? :D

Keep it up though :D

Using precise measurements and google maps, i have worked out that would leave me in Hollowell... Umm, I'll put it on the 'Maybes' list :p

So, in this lovely weather I decided to go and have a play in Coombe Abbey country park. It was ever so pretty, though not many people there to share it with... My people count after an hour hit a staggering 7 :p

C&C if you like, a few more pictures on my flickr. Another squirrel too, ain't they cute :D

I love the Coventry set - especially the b&w treatments. I like the low angle shots too. The panning is a very good first attempt. Well done.

I can't choose between the first 3 of the second set - they're all really pleasing shots in their own ways. I think the last one lacks a bit of contrast (but I like contrasty) and it's a matter of personal choice.

Look forward to your next set - you've set yourself a high standard. :)

Jean

Thanks for the comment Jean, I did try to up the contrast on the last one, but it really whited out the front swan so I gave up. Glad you like the others :)

So this week I tried something different. I went abstract hunting because I haven't done it for a while and it's what I enjoy most, though I was feeling a little rubbish and it kept raining on me which caused me to not really get too many pictures... Anyway, here's a few of the decent ones :)

Well done for getting out there and taking photos in bad weather when you weren't feeling too good.

My favourite is #5 - I like the strong graphic quality and the mono treatment.

I can't quite make up my mind about #4 . Again I like the strong graphic quality and the colours, but there's some 'tidy' gene in my head that wants to straighten it up. I'm sure you intended it to be at that angle, though. Did you try cropping it to a sharper angle (more tilt)? What do other people think?

Jean

Thanks very much for the comment Jean :)

I agree with you about something not being right with #4, but I don't know how to crop to make it more/ less tilted... If anyone would like to give it a go, feel free! Or tell me how to do it in Paint Shop Pro 7? I think 7...

Also, here's another take on the same bench in number 5 if you're interested...

I've just had a look at these ... you've had some great ideas so far :)

I think the 2nd picture from Coventry is amazing

Thank you both :D

Nice to know people are actually looking and enjoying the pictures, gives me a good reason to carry on :)

And the second one from Cov is probably my favourite too. It's my mum's favourite picture that I've taken :geek:

Week 4: Mallory Park

There's a whole load of pictures on my flickr and there's a thread with a few more pictures in the motorsport section (more action shots) but as this was my trip for the week I need to post here too! It was nice to try something completely new, and I'm happy I got anything useable :D Here's a few pictures, let me know what you think.

Next week my day off is on my birthday, I don't know what to do!!

It's my birthday :D And I got my new Nifty Fifty in the post today! :D So I've been out to play with it, no stunners but I got around 20 shots that I put up on my flickr, if you'd care to have a look. For those who can't be bothered, here's a few:

Pailton
1. This place used to be filled with trees and now the majority of them have been cut down, thought this showed the emptiness...

Im going out with Russell Tomorrow with my Nifty Fifty first time, hope mine are as good as your first outing

Thank you all for the birthday wishes :)
Think I need to get used to the Nifty but it's definitely fun!

Exactly how did I miss this thread!!!!

Some great shots in here Daniel!

Too many to comment on now but the nifty set stand out for me (love the barbed wire) and your abstracts - that blue window shot is stunning!

The Coombe Abbey squirrel is a corker too and I like the urban set you kicked off with!

I shall keep a closer eye on this one!

And a belated Happy Birthday too :D

Thanks very much John :)
Being a weekly thing my thread doesn't seem to stay near the top very long, so easy to miss I guess!

:( I didn't do one this week!

On my day off I decided that I would have a rest and relax day where I did nothing because I really needed it... So I thought that for this week I would add some from a photoshoot I was doing for a friend yesterday. However, Sunday it seems is not a good day to try and get a teenager for a photoshoot... Hangovers aren't attractive :p So yeah, I've ended up photoless last week. I apologise and week 6 will be coming this week :)

In fact I have soo many photoshoots this week I could post two to make it up :D

I really enjoyed this, it was a fun day and I'm pretty happy with the photos. I hope nobody minds me posting them again in the people section cos I'd like as much feedback as I can on these :) I can't take credit for the poses, everything was her idea.
