Any help and advice welcome on this one... I am taking a photo of someone who got married last year and wants me to take photos of her on her horse in the countryside with her wedding dress on; which she has not had cleaned yet thankfully.

I think this is the first time I've said to a client "that's quite challenging" as I know they are after a large canvas and an arty output... Any advice welcome...

Cheers in advance

Hmmm that's bizarre! I fixed up a shoot yesterday, for the exact same thing! I'm doing the shoot next week, so should be interesting.

I'm gonna keep a close eye on this thread.

Same Bride hedging her bets?

Lucky you, I would love to do this. Was supposed to do it at a wedding I shot but there was no one to clean and tack up the bride's horse ready for her.

I would like to start off at dawn, especially if it is a misty one with her coming towards me out of the mist or galloping side on (would be great if someone could be chasing her) or even softer romantic type shots with the horse looking over her shoulder. There are so many options open to you on this that I feel really jealous :D

A galloping/cantering horse and rider in a wedding dress - while it can make a great image it may tell an unusual story if there is no groom - i.e. running away.
To tell the story differently you could maybe have them heading towards a church - so it looks like she is riding to the wedding not away from it!
Whereas if its the two of them on the horse, or leading it, it becomes a much more romantic story/image.
A more arty/fashiony shot would be getting the bride to drape herself on the horse rather than the usual riding pose - particularly if you can get away with doing this without the saddle/bridle - depends on horse and rider!
good luck!

Oooh sounds like a fun one!! I should think life will be much easier for your exposure if it's not a black horse!

Hopefully the horse has a nice temperament too, some throw fits at any loose/flappy clothing/apparel.

I had this a couple of years ago, white horse, bride sitting side saddle, led all the way to the church with horse handler (groom) two grooms in one day:naughty::naughty::naughty:
They put a white garland type thing over the horse as if it was going into battle, looked very nice from the photographers point of view. She was helped down from the horse by two ushers wearing white gloves.

will a video give good results...then you get lots of fps

That was a good point earlier... a side saddle would be a good idea, if the bride can ride side saddle of course. Otherwise the dress may be bunched up in front of her

Depends on the dress obviously but you will probably be able to drape it back over the horses hindquarters. I'm thinking galloping might look a bit too "bride running away" - maybe suggest a collected trot instead... it will look prettier.
