My website

Far too cluttered for my liking..I like the minimal look, your site (for me) has too much info on home page, too many different fonts and colours, looks more like blog
Sorry to be negative..

Robin

Cleaned up a little. I do not have time today.
Number of colors seems to me that they are not too much ...

... and this is my photoblog.

Thank you for your opinion :)

Hi ewnoph,

Just had a quick look at your Photo blog. As its a blog I'd think about joining up some sections such as trees, flowers, garden and forest for example as one topic tab.
Also you could remove the translation bar on the left hand side panel. Most browsers like Google Chrome offer free translation services on the fly now.
Third suggestion would be to put your personal take in the writing. As its blog posting frequent visitors probably wouldn't mind you thoughts and take on the day shooting.
Finally put a contact tab up there so people can connect and hire you.

Hope this helps, keep going ;)

I made a few changes.
I also changed my signature in all the pictures.
I ask for further tips.
Thank you for your help :)

Sure no problem.

You want to consider putting your contact email and telephone number on your Contact Page. Most people call and email not use the contact form provided.

Any tab topics that have only one or two images you probably want to remove for the time being as it will seem you are covering too many subjects and not really specialising in one field.

Also you can remove the yellow translate button on the bottom right.

You want to consider also, if you want a pure photography portfolio site or a blog homepage. I'd rather you showcase your work on the main page or showcase image and have the blog on a separate tab. But this is a personal decision. Your last post on December 2nd is an image but no blog article. On my site the blog is a different page. People will judge you on what they see on your main page.

You're site will naturally grow to your tastes over time. Just ask yourself how what would a client (non-photographer) want to be re-assured with seeing.

I do not want static homepage. People will not to know which is the new photo which I added to my blog.

Is there anything else that I could change in my blog to be more attractive?

If you do not want a static homepage then leave it.

Don't you think people will visit your blog page if it wasn't the main page? How many photography sites start on their blog page?

It looks better now?

And I have one problem: I do not know how to make a second menu that blog had a different menu (with my titles).

I think you need to sit down and think your website out with a piece of paper and pencil. You're making so many changes I don't know what to keep on advising on.

You've got a homepage page which is fine. Does the viewer really need to read "Butterfly's" when they can clearly see this?
"About My Site" - Are you sure you don't want to have a page about you instead? I think viewers know you love pictures etc.

I think you're trying to get the best out of a template to get viewers. Try (and this is only advice) to just show your best work. Less is more sometimes.
Look around other well known photographers sites and see what works and what doesn't.

You don't need a super SEO friendly site to get all sorts of views. You need great content. At your age (you've got plenty of time and promise) you should focus more on the craft of photography. Website designs and templates come and go. Even if you got it perfect tonight. It would be out of date by next May.

Focus of photography and building connections with as many people as possible. Thats what worked for me anyway. If you have a newsletter, this could help visitor to your blog page. This is what I do. Send me a direct message here or on website and I'll give you a few past letters that have got subscribers onto the blog.

Hope this helps.

I constantly changing something because I'm still in the making of this page.
Thank you for the good advice.
I have a newsletter, on the right sidebar (on blog) is a subscription.
My contact email address is at the bottom of the home page.

I think its best for you to make a change and leave it for a month. Then ask non-photographers want they think of your site. They will be the ones who will be visiting.

Now I'm happy with the look of my website.
I hope that others will like it too.
So for now I will not change anything.
Thank you for the good advices. (y)

Why ask for opinion if you're not going to listen to the opinions you get?

ok.. Gotcha! A case of misreading something that was ambiguously worded... bound to end badly that :)

I think you'll find the The European Peacock on your website isn't a Peacock.

You're right.
I've corrected the name of the butterfly.
Thank you very much.

post the best images that you can, (you say that you want to display your "pictures"), - they have to be technical the best that you can achieve and the composition also need careful thought and interest - have a look at the bird section to see what you should aim towards

the title does seem a little strange …….. ew no photography, (ewnophotography), IMHO

I think you're missing the "personal" element necessary for a personal blog. Just a quick example - http://ewnophotography.uk/animals/butterflys/peleides-blue-morpho/ - yes, it's a tropical butterfly from Mexico, but where were you when you shot it? I know you mention it in the tags, but including a bit about the butterfly farm and your visit makes it a bit more than a picture of a blue butterfly and a sentence cribbed from Wiki. People read blogs for the stories as much as the photos. If the story isn't what you want to tell then ditch the blog and go with Instagram or VSCOgrid or something of that ilk that's far better suited to images without text.

Agree with Bill that the name could have been better chosen. If you drop the "photography" then "Ewno" on it's own works better - far better as a watermark than the more cumbersome version. Besides, every can see it's a photograph and presumable taken by a photographer ;)

Thank you for your comment BillN_33.
I learn taking pictures all the time. I realize that I do not have professional skills (or equipment). I try as I can, and the effects can be seen on my blog.

What do you mean by that title is strange?

ewnophotography:

ew - the first letters of my first name
no - the first letters of my surname
photography - my photos

name
say it out loud ……….. "my site is called ewnophotography.uk" ………. you either say "ew no photography" or gibberish
will people remember it and find it easily?
is it an attractive name?
how many times will it be mis-typed?
does it do anything to promote your site?

Maybe you're right Alastair.
I must think of a name change on ewno or ewnoph.
I do not write more personally because I do not writing abilities.
Instagram account I have. But I can not show my pictures in full size.
And on my blog I have a more freedom :)

^ this

Out loud there are two pronunciation traps
  • Ewwww/eughhh, no photoraphy (starts with an expression of disgust)
  • Oh no, photography (starts with a negative)

Always remember ghoti (Google it), and think about how someone else might mispronounce your phrase.

I never thought of the name of my blog in this way...

If, indeed, the name of my blog is so bad that I had to change it.

Think about how you might play to your strengths. If the words aren't your strong point maybe use someone else's. Paraphrasing/repeating Wiki is rather dull to read. So why not present a quote or lyric relevant to something in the image, give a reader something interesting to think about alongside the image.

Alastair thank you for the advice.

I think that would be a good name ewnoph?
ewno I saw that other people use.

I corrected a little.
Completely change my name I can not, so I did compromise.
The name is similar, but I hope that there is no association to - no photography.
I will try also to my posts were more personal.

Thank you for your suggestions Alastair and BillN_33 (y)
