My website

hmm, I hadn't considered it from that point.

So whats the easiest way to do this in PS? lol

i am not sure if mine are anygood, but i just write on text and then lower the opacity to make them see through

thanks music man, i just did it and it is simple to do so i do it.

You need a new watermark for your images dude.

Why do you need watermarks - I keep my images at 72dpi at a maximum height of 500 px - you can't get a good print from that - yes I know you could steal it and use it on the web if you wanted to - but I guarantee that I could remove anyone's usual watermark with Photoshop if I really wanted to steal the image - which means, so can anyone else with a few skills.

i save tham as 250kb or setting 3 when they ask me how to save it, is that low enough

what size should you put images on a website so they cannot be blow up big enough?

I always use 640 as constraining edge, and then a few more pixels for any border. If you also save the image at a low dpi this will render any attempts at printing these as rather poor quality.

Also, if you have used Zenfolio - though there are ways to circumvent this, right-click for save-as has been disabled.

music man, as zenfolio is american did you have to pay a fee to transfer the £ to the $

thanks

No, no fee. Just pay online and your credit card does the conversion per sé. You'll just be charged the equivalent of $39 or whatever the dollar cost is - in pounds... which is about £21.

Don't forget to PM me if you want the $5 discount referral code.

Are you going to sign up with them...?

i like the idea, i may do,

If i do i will show you it.

how long did it take to set yours up?

Minutes...! literally. I then add to it as I get photographs I want to put on it and when I want to create distinct galleries (hidden or otherwise) for customers/clients.

I added a new category and gallery yesterday following coverage of a kids rugby match. It really is a doddle. What's keeping ya from setting this up for yourself...?

i am going to probably wait to half term then do it when i have lots of spare time

Just out of interest, does Zenfolio use javascript to disable the right click? If so it's pretty worthless ;) I've been researching ways of stopping people right clicking, and it appears that not many are actually fool proof. Opera browsers can still do it, and depending on the method used to disable Right clicking, so can IE6+.

EDIT: Very impressed with Zenfolio, I've not got around their right click disabling yet. :D

I'll have to post my site for you guys to pick apart offer advice on soon

Hi Matty - not sure what method is deployed by Zenfolio to be honest, but as you have already spotted they do a grand job at it.

None of the 'disable right click' methods are foolproof though, as one can always 'print screen', but that would only result in a poor quality image being printed for sure.

that is actually a good function i guess it stops the not v.good criminals from bothering to steal

one comment from me

nice looking pics
and images are for images, text is for text, never mix the two if you can help it..

that was two comments, you can have the second for free :)

thanks andy how do you mean i have the text and pics mixed up?

thanks

M

if this worked, its an image displayed on your website - no need for that to be an image, takes time to load, and would be better just as text - except maybe for the logo itself - which quite rightly deserves to be an image

btw thanks everyone for all your advice it is very kind of you

and without you my photography would never improve, ( or it would just a bit slower as i am not getting good advice)

You could try

www.streamline.net

I have my site hosted with them. Its a mine field all these places you can go to, but I found them to be local (Derby) cheap £67.99 including domain name for 2 years unlimited space etc....They have hundreds of modifiable templates to chose from, you have full account control for emails and FTP etc....I also linked in my gallery I setup using Jalbum. I know jack about HTML just a bit of common sense and bingo.

thanks glen i will have a look at this,

any other hosting sites i may not of heard of?

i'm with directhostinguk.com - the bronze package seems pretty reasonable

how much bandwidth do you need?

how much bandwidth does a person take if they visit your website?

thanks

This depends on the size of the page(s) you are delivering and the number of visitors to your site.

I have an owned dedicated server that delivers between 15 to 20 Million pages per month to up to 100,000 unique users across the globe. My bandwidth is close to 100GB/month.

Not on my tog site though...:):)

what about 1000 visitors a month and about 8 pages

go for something cheap as possible and see if it meets your needs, if not then upgrade your hosting package.

ok thanks, i will go low and then if i need upgrade.

i think i am going to go for zenfolio for £21 a year and i will start it in january

Then you don't need to trouble yourself with bandwidth usage! Don't forget to give me a shout beforehand and you'll then get it for £16 per year!

thanks music man i will, i will start it in january and let you know how it goes

as well as music man i would just like to thank everyone for all their help and advice they gave me

No probs matey... now hurry up and get that site up and running. By the way... why are you waiting until January...? Why not do it now?

i gave lots of work at the moment and it should all relax slighlty by january so i will do it then
