Hi,

I had a website designed quite some months ago now but havent really had the time to advertise or promote it. I wanted to ask for your opinion's!

Please let me know what you think!

www.lensoflondon.co.uk

Many Thanks

Stacie :)

I'm not a professional photographer nor do I have my own website (yet) so I can only comment as a potential punter:-

It looks pretty and the layout seems ok, but there are a few problems with the content.

The link opens as baby photography and it says you're a baby specialist, but then the photos on the home page are not all of babies! I appreciate that you are trying to offer as many services as possible, but it does make it a bit confusing.

I think the font is too small and also some of your phrasing needs altering ie,

My Portrait Photography can capture new born babies right through to adults and your favourite pets

I'm not sure about the pets bit at the end of a sentence that starts with new born babies.

All the pictures are excellent:thumbs:

Thank you Wookee, I appreciate your comments and will look at all of the points you raised.

Ta Stacie

OK this is my take on your site, you can completely ignore it if you don't agree.

I think it's sending too many mixed messages. It seems that baby photography is what you want to promote as the first thing you say on the home page is you offer professional baby portraits. But the slideshow on that page is a bit of everything. You go on to say more about babies and toddlers but the next sentence is about gig photography and that's another service you offer. On the first page it talks about services offered like weddings, portraits, events, pets etc. Then when you click the services link in the menu there is portraits and events. Weddings is rolled into the events with gigs, parties and christenings all for the same package. If you are interested in gig photography you will need to speak to someone who specialises in this area to find out how to break into it I think, but it's a very difficult area to establish yourself in as a paid photographer.

I think you should pick one genre and put up a separate site for your gig photography. I understand you might not want to turn any work away if you're not booked up with portrait sessions, but I think having all the other stuff there will actually reduce the effectiveness of the site for your target market. The market is saturated with photographers now more than ever, but that means its even more important that when someone wants a photographer for a particular job, you look like that is your specialty, your niche, the go to photographer for that particular job. So like I said that means either actually focusing on one thing, or having separate sites to give the right impression to your clients.

One other thing, I think the about me page should have a photo of you if you want to do family photography, it kind of looks like the baby is the photographer ;)

Anyway good luck, I hope what i've said gives you something to think about as far as targeting your market goes.

Thanks this is very helpfull. So I am going to do some work on my site as soon as I can. I think I will just aim to be a Baby photographer. Do you think I should remove the other pictures in my gallery, so there are only babys?

Cheers stacie

Personally I would if I was focusing on babies. And I would try to make everything about the site to appeal to mums with babies. You could still have a blog section to post other work or a personal work section that isn't offered as a service. And something like lifestyle portraits of families and babies might go together OK, but bands, pets and events just seem a bit too removed if the baby photography is what you are mainly targeting. Just my opinion though.

Separate the Portfolio into sections:
My Portfolio – Baby Photography
My Portfolio – Black & White and Selective Colour Photographs
My Portfolio – Toddlers
And as said previously at least add more baby photos on the home page :)

Thats funny - thats exactly what I done last night :) not done the homepage yet! Dunno how to do that myself!

Ok so I have changed alot since posting this! Now check it out http://www.lensoflondon.co.uk

I still need to do the pictures on the homepage - I cant do this myself!! :(

Let me know what you think Thanks

If you can get a folding menu for the Portfolio section containing all the categories and list them separately on their own pages, as I can't see the actual code of your pages it's a bit hard to recommend specific approach to the problem, but jQuery would do the job you just need to find the desired plugin :)
As for the 1st page find where the images are located on the File Server and just change them, if you're not comfortable with changing the source code just add the new images with the same names as the old ones :)

Are you able to show me a link to a folding menu?

People over 40 and the visually impaired will have difficulty reading the main body text as the font is tiny and the colour is faint compared with the background.

Also, the slideshow stretches some of the images so they are out of perspective, and I would delete the text starting 'My portrait photography...' as it's just waffle. No offence!

Copyright year is still showing 2010.
On the whole it is a very readable clear website.

The babies are scaring me :(

Not sure if it is my browser (one baby looks very squashed) but they look evil to me (two with evil eyes!)

Sorry :( I'm not trying to be nasty (yet probably succeeding) but I don't think those pics do justice to your photography.

Phil
