OK, just got back home from a week in Northumberland. What a week....
My car is still there due to a road accident on the way up, but as I have AA cover, I had a rental for 3 days FOC, and I arranged to extend it and drop it off locally tomorrow. Car looks like it could be a right off though, so I'm not happy :shake:
Anyway, I hired a 300mm f2.8 & extender from Lensesforhire.co.uk which is a beast of a lens but real quality. The main reason for the trip was to get out to the Farne Islands, and we got there eventually. On Tuesday we were aiming at the "full day Birdwatching trip", but we couldn't land on Staple, so we settled on just going to Inner Farne. However, the swell got up and we couldn't land there either, so we had to come back to Seahouses and try again on Wednesday; which we did, and managed to get onto Inner Farne for about 2 1/2 hours.
Here's the only image I've managed to quickly PP since I've been home.
Anyway, what I really wanted to say was, if you get the time, DON'T just go up to Northumberland for the Farne Islands, as there is so much more to do. The birds & wildlife on the beaches are numerous too. On our first day we spotted Oysercatchers, Ringed Plovers, a Turnstone, Sand Martins, Eiders, Commerants and a few more to boot...
Castles..... There's so many castles in the area. We visited Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Alnwick and Warkworth, but there's many more. We also visited Cragside, a NT property with some fatastic gardens. And we also visited Kielder Forest, and for the first time saw red squirrels, Siskins and a GS Woodpecker, all in just 30 minutes in one hide.
Hopefully I'll get some more images up over the next few days, but both the wife & I can't wait to go back for some more.... And the people were all very welcoming too.
