Im thinking if selling my very much loved Sigma 120-300f2.8 and 1.4tc to be replaced with the Nikon 300f4 E PF and the Nikon 200-500 f5.6. Im thinking the 300 will be really handy and very light weight and hopefully it takes a 1.4tc ok. The 200-500 would be a light weight alternative to ny 600f4 which im keeping.

My question is does anyone use this 300f4 with a 1.4tc and if so any pics? Even better if its from a D850 or D4s.

@gramps is a big user and I am sure many more just not mentioned much but with the 1.4TCIII it’s 420mm and still less than 1kg I think

I am really happy with the 300 PF and use it as a lightweight walk about lens mostly on a D500 but it works equally well with a D810. I am happy using it with a 1.4tc and this is my default set up with this lens. The 1.7tc also works well in good light. If anything I get better results from a 1.4tc on the 300 PF rather than on my 500mm. I have attached a few recent examples, all from a D500.

The 300 PF is a superb lens, not only in IQ but in weight and hence portability.
I've used it on the D500 & D7200 but I haven't used it on a D850 or D4S, however I am sure it would be superb ... I have used it with the TC1.4eii and 1.7eii and it works well but I am struggling to find examples ATM as I normally use the 500 f4 when I want that range.

Gramps, why opt for the 500 when you have the 300 and 1.4tc? is the 500 much sharper with better IQ?

Not really Mark, where I visit for 90% of my photography I need the option of 500mm + as I am mostly shooting birds at a distance and the 300 even with TC's isn't long enough. For shorter range it is superb and I have on occasion gone out only with that lens but I then have to restrict what I shoot ... many times I take the 500 f4 on the D500 and the 300 PF on the D700 (or D7200 previously) to cover all eventualities.

I am selling my 200-400 as my 300 pf has effectively replaced it. Not sure if I am going to replace it a 200 f2 is tempting or not. As with Gramps I now carry two bodies, a 300pf and 500 as my default kit.
