My pictures please advice

Here are some of my pictures that I attempted. Please advice how to improve them is very welcome as I need to work on everything while shooting a picture

Sorry for the amount of pictures but was not sure which one to put as I have so many...

1. A wider aperture would give a shallower depth of field and thrown the background more out of focus. Other than that it looks fine to me.

2. Would have been better without the towel and hairy appendage in the foreground.

3. A wider shot would have put the stall into context. As it stands it could have been taken anywhere.

4. As no. 1

5. A different angle on the ladybird would have made it more interesting. As it stands it holds very little interest.

6. Use of a circular polarising filter would have brought out the detail in the sky and made the picture more interesting.

For more in depth critique you'd be better off posting individual images in the photo sharing forums.

Hi there and thanks for sharing your pictures.

The first thing that strikes me about them is that they are all over exposed. Looking at the first picture of your husband and his niece, I took the liberty of making some adjustmets to this image in Photoshop. Reducing the exposure by 1 1/2 stops makes a big difference - reduces the large white areas on his neck/shirt and the girls hair. Adding some contrast and sharpening improves the image too.

This took about 30s to do. With more time and effort the blown areas could be got rid of which would bring out more detail in the image.

Possibly that could be your monitor. #1 does have blown parts as you said but other than that the rest look about right exposure wise on my monitors.

Mimi, as suggested by Mike larger apertures (lower F numbers) would help especially as you have a 4/3 sensor. The smaller sensors give greater depth of field anyway without stopping down to F8 and even the kit lenses from Olympus are plenty sharp wide open.

I didn't check the others as I'm working via mobile broadband at the moment so you may be right about them looking over exposed because of my laptop screen.

thank you for all the comments I will try to keep in mind to think outside the box and shoot with different angles and to think about espouse and invest in some filters which currently I do not own.

While yes i am pretty supreme this is only my opinion .

It sounds like it could be your monitor as other than the blown highlight in the hair the exposure is not that bad, which really does not hurt the image a great deal.

OP i think fill is the key to portraits like this.
