Firstly, apologies for posting this thread here, I appreciate its not really the correct forum but I cant access the "Classifieds : Price Checks" forum.

I'm after some advice really, I am looking to upgrade my camera and may have found a 40d that I want, to help fund this I am considering selling my Canon EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4L lens (I know its old), but I dont know what sort of price I should be asking, any ideas ? I will most probably ask about putting the lens as an exchange towards the 40d, so please dont make any offers, its purely advice I would like, thanks guys.

I assume that you are part exchanging in a shop? If so I'd be asking for about £250 and be happy with £200. It really depends on what the price of the 40D is too. One issue with the lens is that because it is an old one spares are probably unavailable if something should go wrong.

Michael thanks for your info, spot on. I just got a call from LCE (London Camera Exchange) offering me £200, £250 if the lens is in mint condition. The 40D they have in stock is £429, I will have a look at it and see what sort of condition its in and how many shots its taken etc.

I see you use a 40d, whats your opinion of it ? I currently have a 400d but since using my mates 30d I really wanted to upgrade.

I had a 28-80L and sold it for £300 about year ago. It may be old, but it is still an 'L' lens and therefore desirable!

Assuming the shutter count is under 10k *and* there is at least a six month warranty then that's not a bad price at all.

My first DSLR was a 400D and then the upgrade to the 40D, just like you're doing. Bigger, better screen, feels better in the hand, more robust, faster fps (the 6.5 is like gunfire in comparison to the 400D), far better menu system and way more options although it takes a bit of getting used to after the 400D, faster AF, faster r/w to the card. Actually it's just faster everywhere :)

You will probably make your mate jealous seeing as he only has 8mp, 5fps and a tiddler of a screen.

You can also be smug in the fact that your hotshoe will not flake it's paint :)

You really won't be disappointed.

The biggest downside is that you will want better glass to match the cameras ability and we all know that that's a slippery slope :help: :D

Mifsuds have one for £399 but IMVHO even that seems expensive for what is quite an old camera now.

thanks for the advice guys, I will have a look around to see whats about, much appreciated.
