Yes
OK so a couple of weeks on from buying my first camera ( apart from a PaS for holiday snaps) I've well and truly got the bug.

So in my kit bag I have.

D7000
Nikkor 18-105mm
Nikkor 70-300mm
Nikkor 105mm macro.
Nikkor SB-900

Remote Control, spare battery, Benro travel tripod.

I'm after a wide angle/ultra wide angle. And a Prime?? poss 35mm 1.8

The Nikkor 10-24mm gets good reviews but is expensive (arguably worth it though)

I've seen some reviews on the sigma 8-16mm which throws another into the pot.

I can't answer the "what are you into question" yet as I dont know.

Any help

Cheers
Matt

I can't answer the "what are you into question" yet as I dont know.

If you've only had your camera a couple of weeks it might be worth cooling your heels a wee while and see if you can come up with an answer to that question before spending a chunk of money on something you'll never use....

i say get the 35mm f1.8 or 50mm f1.8 and take it from their.

Having a prime in your bag is always good.

I have the 35mm f1.8 and i use it in my D7000 and the quality is fantastic. this combo is very good in low light situation.

Is your hobby collecting camera equipment or photography? How can you decide what to get without knowing what you need? You might realise you like a certain type of photography that requires a whole load of additional gear that aren't lenses.

After re-reading the OP post again, i didn't realise he just got the camera not long ago.

I agree with you on this one BazEP.

To the OP: maybe you should sit down and start play with your camera more and the lens you got before consider diving into the market for lenses again?

I have:

D7000
Nikkor 18-105mm
Nikkor 50mm 1.8G

I will be surprised if I've learned how to get the best out of these two lenses and my LOVELY new camera this time next year.

p.s. Many thanks to Stuart of Digital Depot for looking after me so well and for the very smart Nikon rucksack he 'chucked in' - it's a beaut!

Good luck to the OP but you must be one smart cookie (and extremely minted) to be able to handle all those beauties - (still slightly jealous though).

Stop exercising the credit card and start exercising the shutter button! Don't fall into the trap of just buying and buying, it leads nowhere.

Sounds like the one thing you don't have is experience... [/cliche]

The 105 macro was an odd choice for a beginner. If you're keen on getting into macro you may be better off getting macro gear (macro late for tripod, ring flash etc) rather than more lenses.

That said, I'd echo what others have said and get confidence using the great kit you already have.

Oh, one other thing you might need - insurance!

Cheers Guys,

All taken on board. I got a good deal on the macro and zoom lens'.

I've taken the best part of 10k shots. (Does the d7000 tell me). I am slowly getting to know the camera. Its been about 6 weeks now (which I know is not long at all)

I know I may be falling into the he who dies with the most toys wins category. Its just I'm not sure if their is anything obvious that I'm missing.

Camera and kit lens is more than enough to get going, certainly. You aren't missing anything obvious at all. 10,000 shots in 6 weeks though, wow, exercising the shutter button as well then! just get comfortable with the camera, learn new stuff and enjoy it - spend on gear when you really do genuinely need/want/would improve with it.

I will echo what everyone else is saying (But buy a fast prime too lol). You have a lot of gear to be playing with for now, check out this site and youtube tutorials for some inspiration and try do something different with your camera.
Maybe set yourself a challenge of getting a totally different genre of image you are happy with each day/week. HERE are some ideas to keep you going!

Inspiration that's the damn problem. Ooh I wanna do that and that and that oh and that.

Looking at the nikon 35 mm 1.8 £169 from wilkinsons.

As I'm a noobie I'm looking at shots I like and seeing what len's are being used and then thinking I cant do that with what I've got. Instead I should be thinking about what I can do with the equipment I do have

You've got a prosumer DSLR and three lenses within the space of less than 2 months - whilst the 35mm f/1.8 does have a very good reputation (and I shot exclusively with one for quite a while), I still emphasise the importance of working with the kit you have at the moment. Three lenses.

When your next in a buying mode start looking at f2.8 lenses would be my suggestion. Ok bit more expensive but definately worth the money.

personally i would sell that 18-105 and 105 macro for either a 18-55 f2.8 or 24-70 f2.8.

I prefer that 24-70 f2.8 tho and then add a wide angle in the future :)

But thats my opinion lol

I would love to be in the position to go and get virtually anything I wanted. ;) :) I think I/we envy you.

I echo what others have said, use your gear a bit more. ;) At some point you may realise what bit of equipment you're missing, if anything.

You never know, you may even get rid of some stuff that you thought you'd use, but don't. ;)

Again Cheers folks.

It's like having loads of Internet Dad's/Mums.

I'm off to the lakes in a few days going to take some landscape shots and maybe I'm just thinking a wider lens etc may get me better shots. But again maybe I should find the limit with what I have first.

Or hire them:bang:

Sometimes is quite fun to make use of limited gear to shoot and the outcome is pleasing which makes you happy :)

I use to have a D5000 and 55-200 VR f3.5-5.6 lens and i went to old Trafford to watch Gary Neville Testimonal match and i was at the front row and i took good shots of the match, nice close up photo of David Beckham, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes etc. I was well please at that time with the quality of image i was getting on that night with the limited gear.

You can zoom out to 18mm with your 18-105mm, which should give you a lot of wide-angle; based on what you said earlier, I'm sure you must be looking at lots of landscape shots and seeing that they were taken with exotic expensive lenses, but that doesn't mean that you can't get a fantastic landscape shot with your lens and camera either. Enjoy the trip, post the resulting photos on the fora for everyone to see!
