Does anyone else have this problem? It happens to me randomly, I can understand if im trying to focus on a plain white surface but it happens with different things at different distances.
If its indoors and the light isn't too good then it may well hunt for focus..
its when the lens moves slightly forward or backward trying to find somehing to get focused on.hope this helpsWhat does hunt for focus mean?
Go from infinity to close and back to infinity without managing to "lock on" to a subject. If there's no definite thing for the AF to grab onto in the selected AF point, any lens can have this "problem". Try on a subject with a bit more contrast and see if it manages to AF then. AF is pretty good these days but it isn't infallible.
maybe im expecting the equipment to be too perfect?

Faces in the crowd are generally a bit poorer lit than the band. In very low light situations, you may well be better off trying to manually focus - but that can be a challenge too! (If you can find one, there is such a thing as a f/1.2 50mm Nikkor - but MF only and VERY shallow DoF at max aperture.)
My nikon 50mm 1.4af has similar problems but mainly when it is fully open and it is also very soft, however, it is much better when it is stopped down...also it is much better on my Nikon D70 body than my fuji s2..i thought it was faulty at first but now reckon that it is just one of the quirks of a nifty fifty, a bit of an aquired taste.
