In all seriousness have a good look at the hood and check it all goes up and down without any creaks or groans as they can be very expensive to repair. also ask if the bulkhead has been checked

That's interesting, being that the 9-3 is a GM car, from what I remember Astras used to suffer from something similar....

It had a new hood motor 3 years ago so it should still be fine

I'm just a bit concerned you had to sell your D2X to fund a car, I know flash cars have a lure which is hard to resist but they can be expensive to fix when they go wrong.

Me being a Jaguar XK8 owner i'm sure you can see where i'm coming from

I am now the proud owner of a Saab convertible
The car is mint but the leather is slightly worn but thats natural for leather of this age apart from this the car is just spot on and drives faultless, I will get a few pics on here once we have a nice day for anyone interested

I got a new car today - 1991 Toyota MR2 2.0 T-Bar. It was free.

High mileage and engine won't start. Coil is leaking which is a bit of a clue...

Needs a good machine polish as well.

The only decent engine they came with was the BMW-sourced diesel one. The petrol engines were made out of old toffee wrappers and coke cans. I did consider a diesel MG estate a few years back, brand new old stock for £10k, a lot of car for the money...

I'd say the Ford V8 was the only decent engine they came with.

Just a quick update..............I have had the car for nearly a week and it has done well over 1k whilst I have been using it and it runs like new, no knocks or squeaks and its cheap to run too, averaging 29mpg round town and over 30 on a run so not bad for a 2.3 in a heavy car.
I have had the bulkhead looked at but the problem doesnt affect this model NG900 and the hood goes up and down probably faster than Saab intended due to the new aftermarket motors fitted.

My only gripe is the price of parts for these things.........it needs a new tonneau flap for cosmetic purpose and the things cost in excess of £300 for a 3" by 3" bit of plastic but on the good news side, I have a new walnut dash comming for it for £25 and a further £25 to fit it.

So I am very chuffed with it

That's the only problem with buying cheap luxury cars, the parts prices still relate to a 30k car, if I went to Jaguar for parts for my XK8 I think i'd faint at the prices.

Luckily there's a Jaguar breakers 20 miles away who've had everything i've needed so far, there's also more 3rd party parts available than you'd think so don't think you have to go to saab for everything.

there'll be a specialist saab breaker somewhere so it might be worth finding it for future reference.

Mind you I had a laugh with my Iveco daily this week, the brake warning light came on STOP YOU'RE GOING TO DIE
I took it to Iveco as it's under warranty to be told it was just the back brake sensor telling me the pads were low
Ok how much to fix it
well it needs discs, pads, sensors,hub seals, labour, vat click click on the calculator £592

I took it to the garage i've used for years

there's nothing wrong with the discs, it needs pads £65, sensors £21 and £75 to fit them

Lovely car, I always liked the old NG900's - they were a good car before GM took over and ruined them. Looks in nice nick too.

I actually stood and watched a woman clatter her door off the side of my previous car - she just about bricked herself when I walked over and asked if she was planning to pay for the damage

THat is something that really gets my goat.

Since I got my new car which is also mint I've been careful and parked well away from people in car parks - or in spaces that are really wide.
You still get some twerp who, despite you being parked in the middle of the empty bit, comes and parks next to you.
Or despite you picking a wide space they just park a normal distance from you and ignore the space lines.

whenever I park my XK8 I just aim for the white line making sure it's right down the middle of the car, this is partly because I don't want the sides denting but mostly because the doors are huge and the car is really low so I need them wide open or I can't get out of it

My BMW 3 coupe is also very low with pretty big doors so I may give it a go!

dun by who, Asda, just threaten to go to Sainsburys and they'll back down, I have never ever parked in a disabled space or a mother and baby space so I feel justified in parking in 2 spaces at the far end of the car park because they made the spaces too small

Alot of supermarket car parks are now being operated by private companies all to willing to clamp your car if you overstay the time limit. Not too sure at their reaction to someone taking up two spaces but I reckon it would involve a clamp and fine.

even if it did it's not like a parking ticket, it's a civil matter, they'd need to take you to court to get the money.

I've only ever seen private companies running aldi and lidl car parks, none of the big ones round here are run by private companies.
