Hello all,

Well i've uploaded my website for anybodies interest!

As the name suggests it is mainly about the mac but there will be a number of projects not directly related such as a whole section on wiring up a computer network and how to reset the toner cartridges on a Samsung CLP500 colour laser!

Anyway I will be uploading lots of new stuff on there soon but I wanted to get the bones there first. I have mentioned the site before to a number of people during a thread a few weeks ago but this is the first general mention.

Any suggestions please let me know or post a reply on here.

Thanks all....

to be honest, its rather bland, no feel, its got uncompleted feel and look to it. The opposite to what a mac is about i would of thought. The site looks like its been designed in the 1980's and the colour choice was either grey, grey or grey.

I think your better off scrapping the lot and starting all over.

Sorry its nothing positive...but its best something to be said rather than nothing..

Its all useful feedback, the content is more important to me first rather than the look, colour etc but I do understand what you say. I am going to finish the projects etc (for example the iBook memory upgrade will be on there today) and then look at the layout. For specs etc the tables are a good way, if a little boring and I'm just getting to grips with Dreamweaver.

Wow blunt

Some valid points, macs are stylish, sassy, sexy. Listen though, do NOT be downhearted, easy to create a good looking site, even for complete noobs, and I mean EASY.

PM me if you fancy it.

It is, but if you ask for feedback you can't complain if you get it !

I am a programmer and hardware person. This is my first proper attempt at building a website. The contents is more important for now than the colour, layout etc.

I will improve this as I go along and learn how to use Dreamweaver.

A big part of the problem is using their standard page layouts which does not really help!

The Mac OS section is the most useful bit so far, plus the networking section is getting there! Only two of the hardware projects are finished (other than fixing layouts etc) I have done all the hardware projects in the list but obviously to photograph these in order to give a picture by picture instruction manual I will have to take them apart again! I will be doing this shortly when I get my new 17" macbook pro as I will be upgrading the ram in the pro and putting the original ram into my daughter's macbook then putting her ram into the mac mini! All in all lots of photos and I can then add about 10 new projects.

I suppose having a site with useful information is better than one that looks pretty but having a site with that same information AND looking good would be better and that is what I want to end up with eventually.

True you need content before style, as without content, you cant style it.

I'll also be willing to help with dreamweaver, and any coding tips and such. pm me anytime for some help.

:)

Thanks, I contribute quite a bit to Apple hardware forums and similar. Always answering the same questions so thought I would create the site with the same info and refer to that. There is going to be quite a bit on there eventually. I was a programmer a few years ago so I think I'll just have to bite the bullet and get some web design books and start coding. I like reasonably simple layouts like ANANDTECH with the tabs at the top. EdinburghGary has already offered to help with the initial page layout and I'll just have to learn some html ! Thanks for the offer it is appreciated and yes the site is a bit GREY at the moment. :bonk:

cowasaki, I find iWeb a great little app for making websites.

Give it a try it you haven't already (comes standard with Tiger and Leopard...)

Thanks everyone for the offers etc and advice. I look forward to more as things move along. I have been playing with the layout and colouring and you will all see a significant change in this now !

I will be continuing to play with the layout as I go but I think I am heading in the right direction now!

A few more major updates added...
