My new motorbike

OH came off his deauville last night, was VERY lucky and has just a bruised knee and bruised/strained little finger which has been strapped up. Bike isn't in too bad shape mainly scuffs some of which will buff out and slightly bent bars. Dark lane, couldnt put full beam on as knew his mate was just ahead round the bend, car came towards him and dazzled him, by which time he had reached the bend but couldnt see it, went pretty much straight on into the grass verge/hedge. Just glad he was only doing about 30 rather than the prescribed 50/60 on that type of road.

Sorry to hear that I am glad he is ok and glad it's only minor cosmetics on the bike.

I also ride a 12 plate YBR, love it, cheap to run cheap to keep, perfect for dipping around the city and can also manage longer journeys, I did a 215 mile day trip to Mablethorpe and it was a nice comfy ride 65mph+ on dual carriageways no problem.

Some veeerrry nice bikes in this thread.

Gaz J - What do you think of the KTM? I know you said it's slow but what's it like to live with day to day generally.
Also, what did you think of the XT660X?
I've had my bike for 5 years from new. It's the longest I've ever kept a bike, mainly because it's the best bike I've ever had. It suits my riding perfectly. However, I've been thinking about the KTM recently which would mean getting rid of the CB1000R. I know the KTM is probably better at longer distance stuff than mine but how is it for scratching about?

The other option is to keep mine and get a newish, fun 125/250 of some description or an older dual sport type thing...................................if I'm honest, I don't really know what I want.

Anyway, here's mine. This photo was taken about 3 years ago. Now has 26,000 on the clock and looks just as clean. I still go out to the garage and stare at it.........

I like the KTM. It's comfortable and if you want to do a bit of touring the panniers are big enough for a few days away. Is slow as in my GSR 1000 did 120 in second and this does 125 and that's it.

Handling is good. WP suspension, brembo radials, marchesini wheels so plenty of good kit and well put together.

You really need a test ride. Engine braking especially in the lower gears is quite pronounced.

To be honest I wanted something different. My knees can't take a sports bike anymore and there is not a lot I would change the KTM for. Maybe a GS1200 or a multistrada.

XT660X was a good bit of fun. Ride it flat out everywhere. Handles pretty well with something like 2CTs on it and I'd have another tomorrow. Built to a price but a neat little bike. Slightly too heavy for a true supermoto though.

Thanks Mandy. She is a beauty

Thanks for the info Gary. The KTM seems to bridge the gap between mine and the GS/Multisrada - well, thats how I perceive it. I must admit I really like the look of the new multistrada. On the face of it it seems to be the perfect blend for my type of riding......bit pricey though.

I've always liked the look of the XT's and they've always been great value. They're almost cheap enough to justify having it as a second bike for doing..........................well, exactly what I do on mine at the moment ;)

Ride safe everyone
