After reading Hoodi's posts a while ago about his Mamiya RB67 I went looking on a few auction sites and....
I am now the proud owner of a Mamiya RB67 PRO SD.:)
The pictures that I had seen really didn't prepare me for the size and weight of this thing, its a beast! I have put a couple of rolls of velvia through it so far and had some prints done and all seems to work well. I am using my D40 as a light meter/polaroid to set shots up which seems to work alright.
I hope to get a decent scanner soon so I will be able to share some shots and continue to process digitally.
I have been thinking of getting either the Epson 4490, 4990 or at a push the V700. Any thoughts on these scanners?

I so want one of these but I just can't justify the cost on a(nother) toy. :(

I have just been told I've inherrited a large format camera though. No idea at all what it will be but it's exciting none the less.

Hope you really enjoy that beast and we'll all be looking forward to you getting that scanner I'm sure. :clap:
 
The detail these things resolve is astounding, as is the dynamic range. Nice one, great purchase. Cant wait to see some work on here....:)
 
I was thinking of getting a MF camera as well, and have also considered the exact range of scanners you mentioned :) Would be interested in whether the extra DMax of the 4990 and V700 would be significantly noticeable for scanning slides.

Looking forward to seeing your results.

You should have seen the queue that Hoodi has lined up at a pub in Dungeness to peer through his viewfinder. I had to be forcilbly restrained from making off to France with it in a a holey boat!

It is indeed drool inducing - nice one. Look forward to seeing some posts!

The detail you can get onto a 6x7 tranny through the mamiya lenses is wonderful but the dynamic range of slide film is actually less than a digi SLR. It looks so much nicer as film renders shadow detail and subtle tones far better. :)

I am still undecided about which scanner to get, i'm not fussed about the extra scan area but i would like to know just how much better the results would be from the more expensive scanners. There are plenty of reviews for the 4990 & V700 but very little about the 4490.

Anyone got any ideas?:shrug:

Nah, it's more fun with film really. Plus even on the best newest digibacks you'll only get a teeny tiny 645 sized sensor. ;)
