:love: Picking up my NEW Canon 7D tomorrow. Cant wait. The only down side is that it takes the Compact Flash memory card as opposed to the SD card of which I have thousands (well, lots).

Not only that they are 3-4 times more expensive than SD cards too. Why is that?

Will keep you updated with pics from this little baby of mine. ;)

OH! footy shoots at 8fps.. love it.:love:

Don't worry about the SD card thing. Just go and take some marvellous photographs with your brand spanking new 7D :D

mostly because they sell about 10 gadzillion SD cards for every lonely CF card sold... so less made, less manufacturers, less competition, more profit margin at every stage - oh and its a bigger, more complex item to make - not that should account for more than a 10p difference in otherwise identical specs (size, speed, etc).

Basically its a niche "pro" product, so you pay a premium for the better quality and smaller production runs... just like your 7D :D
 
I dont know what the performance would be like because I have never used one but you can buy a converter card that accepts SD cards into the CF size card. LINK HERE
 
:thumbs:I am now in possession of the little beauty. Actually little it's not, especially with the added grip. Weighs a ton so will have to build up a bit of muscle to hold it straight.

Thanks for the link to the CF card. Now on order as this is the cheapest i have seen. Only it will take time (2-3 weeks) to come.

Cant wait for tomorrows football to try it out. Fingers crossed.;)
 
It is a superb piece of kit, upgraded from the 500 in December and still love it.

This looks very interesting. I have a bunch of high performance SD cards that could come in handy with it. Do you know if there is any degradation performance wise when using?
 
How are you finding the 7D?? I love mine and am so glad I made the jump from the 30d. Have you posted any photos from it yet??

I have a Delkin SD to CF card adapter, it does work on the 7D, but is slower than a CF card.

I didn't know that you could get the sd card adaptors either, seen the microsd ones mind, heard that they were a fair bit slower that the equivalent cf but nonetheless will be getting one :)
 
I've got and briefly tried on of the SD to CF convertors and they're hopeless - so slow as to be barely usable. Might be handy in a total emergency but aside from that, don't bother.

Invest in some decent, high-speed (60MB/s or above) CF cards - they aren't cheap but they're worth it.
 
Enjoy the 7D, but be prepared to do some learning/practice. The AF system can take a while to get your head around.
 
Enjoy the 7D! It is a great camera for sure. With the CF cards, yeah they are expensive, but they arn't as hard to loose! :P
 
got me my 7d last week or so.... great piece of equip indeed granted i havent got by to learn all its secrets.

Not wanting to highjack the thread ive noticed that when in continous shooting every now and then i hear the shutter lag just a bit... just hope its nothing serouis :eek:

for CF cards had to buy me extra cards as 8g simply gets filled in no time

:lol: Exactly what I said when I got mine! Getting used to it now but what a difference compared to my old 400d!

More than likely just your buffer full if shooting in continuous. It will be more noticeable if shooting in RAW. This is where it pays to use a faster CF card.

tnx thats a reliver... thought bout it but went for worst. using an 8g x133 shooting raw.... both me an 8g x200..... if that as well aint enough then ouch the faster one is when it gets really expensive :help:
 
Well, I have got a bit of learning to do with the AF functionality on this baby.
I have quite a few out of focus shots from the football game I was shooting yesterday.
No the usual focus in the wrong place but the whole picture out of focus. Not a single object sharp. Some did have a few blades of grass at the bottom edge in focus though. There is no need to explain why it is a case of user error or the fact I need to work out how to use it to its best capabilities. I will get there today hopefully. Another match to attend and try again.
I am only talking about a dozen shots or so anyway. The rest have blown me away. I seem to have acquired a better depth of field with this camera over the 500D using the same lens. Camera and 100-400 L have given my arm an ache this morning. lol : )
I did use a monopod in the second half just to take some of the weight out. I'll get used to it.
I will post some later after todays game.

Thanks for the info on the CF card issue s of speed and such. Always good to have a back up plan, so I might just get the adapter in case of emergency.
