Long story short ...

Years ago, an unfortunate matter at work meant that I had to take my employers to court. The matter escalated and I had to expand the case to include the owners of the business This was one of the Fortune 500 companies, and some of the owners are in the list of richest people on the planet, the possibility of a successful outcome was bleak; but, to me, it was a matter of principle.

Eventually, close to 7 years of court battles I won all rounds*, but couldn't get my settlement until after all appeals were over. Even then, employer (board members continue to abscond from attending where they were summed to with regards to some of the case's sub-claims) didn't execute the ruling, which meant another round of chasing the courts to get the bailiff to demand from the central banks to withhold their assets and transfer the sums owed to me.

So, 7 years later, God knows how much of a toll it's taken on my health, family & social life, career and sanity; but I finally got partial of what's owed to me.

I promised myself money from the settlement would go to settle the debts accumulated over these years as I fought the case, with the remaining towards my daughter's education and then a treat for myself.

For my treat, at first I thought I'd buy myself a Hasselblad or a Leica M9 with some sexy glass to go along; but I scrapped that plan in favour of this ...

* I've since come to realise that there are no winners, only different digress of losses

In our times of austerity your frugality knows no bounds. I mean you could have got a Veyron and then really rubbed our noses in it :D

Whats the IPG? (inches per gallon)

Thanks, she is a pleasure to drive for sure.

Would have loved the Virage, but this had just the right specifications & options.

No idea, but at 10p a litter here, it's not much of an issue.

great news.... really pleased for you. Love to hear stories like this

Is that a B&O speaker? Wowzers!

That was the right decision, much mor exciting than any camera

10p a litre , even at that price there'll be profit in it so it shows you how much we're shafted over here

Diesel is now £1.43 a litre

Now you are rubbing our noses in it :D

Excellent choice btw

Those really are throwaway prices ;)

10p a litre also sees gas stations making a huge profit, while also bearing in mind they only sell on a cash basis (no credit cards) which means they're an exceptional means of cash generation (sort of like vending machines).

Mind you, the Saudi economy, and much of those around the Gulf states, is based on oil. The more the West, China & India consumes, the higher the demand, the higher the price, the better our economy gets  I refer to it as a "reverse economy" as our GPD is over 90% dependent on oil & gas exports.

That said, our average income per capita is less than 50% that of the average in UK!

But, enough with the economics ... :p

Well done :) small settlement then :)

The funny thing is, the financial settlement was small when this whole nightmare started. It was purely an issue of principles and integrity at first. Because of the length of time it took, the moneys piled-up; but as I said, I don't see any winners in the end, only different degree of losses.

Thank you very much.

When I started this, no one was in agreement with me thinking there isn't a snow-ball chance in hell of winning; but I was willing to fight with all my might and to the full extent the laws would permit. What I lost along the way, a lot more than what the end reward got me; but the fight was not my choice.

Yes, that is a B&O. It was a deal breaker for me. After all, if I was to get this car, I wanted it to be 100% what I desired .... B&O stereo was one of them prerequisites.

Yup, couldn't agree more. Camera are just tools, an Aston Martin is pure engineering pedigree like no other.

I have to say, it is rather economical driving it, the mpg is not as bad as I thought ... until I throttle it :D

There I've corrected it for you...

until 2016 when newly inaugerated president Palin decides to invade Saudi Arabia so that the good ole usa can have the oil for free

still you should have the means of getting over the omani border really quick ahead of the advancing marines

how d'you think I feel , she shoots moose for recreation

There I've corrected it for you...

But really, it's a lot more economical than many other V8 engines out there. Today, filled her up from 3/4 empty, cost me about £6; which ought to get me a good 400km

My main ride is a camel  ... see my post in the thread "what car do you drive?"; I think that ought to be a bette escape platform?

But, in all honesty, I think US & KSA are akin to a sadistic weird couple! At the end of the day, they'll have great sex and sleep it over.

Absolutely brilliant news. Well pleased for you. What a cracker of a car :)

Couldn't have happened to a nicer chap

I might treat myself to a model car when my claim comes through

Darren,

Thank you so much for the nice words :)

I'm now so desperate to get my health back on track so that I can go and enjoy my photography as I used to.

With that car and cheap fuel I'd just be driving around for the next month :D

Is there going to be a new D800 or D4 happening too....... you know you want to

Actually, D4, not for me. It's too bulky for street-photography, I don't like the dual card types (especially with one being so new and the other about to go out .. why didn't they just use one or the either?), and I don't see the D700 being at the end of its life cycle for me. What I did contemplate, selling the D700 along with all the glass I use for street-photography and move to the Leica M9 and a couple of glass for that; but the Aston Martin won hands down.

As for the D3x => Hasselblad H4D-40, again that got scrapped in favour of this baby; and the idea of the D3x => D800; I still can't get my head around that! What does the D800E offer that which the D3x lacks? As a matter of fact, for my landscape work, the D3x trumps the D800E. It's dual CF card slot, amazingly long battery life, superb weather sealing, no hot shoe (can be an issue in rain / sand), 24MP is plentiful, and most of all better support for the PC-E lenses.

What I do want to do is just go out and shoot, God knows how badly I miss being outdoors alone with my camera; and I want to get that other matter we exchanged PM about going once your triggers are ready.

SO jealous of the car. At least you can drive, take photo's of it, drive some more...

I can drive, yes; but not as much and as frequent as I'd want / like to.

I have a slight health issue which gets me in excruciating pains, now almost every day :(. Whatever strength I manage to build-up, I utilise it mostly for work and a bit of family life. The "babe" is a very demanding car, harsh, and requires a lot more concentration than my daily car, Lexus RX350.

Although, I do make the effort to take her out once a week for a few minutes; just so that she doesn't feel neglected

I'm not jealous, no not in the slightest , i'm quite happy with my five year old peugot partner van (0-60 eventually), thank you very much :dummy: :whistling:

It's an Aston Martin Vantage .......... luuuuurrrrrvvly

4.3L V8 :D The V12 has more grills on the bonnet which sort of spoils the look really....

Aaaaah.... knew it was an Aston but I'm not up on cars that cost as much as my house.

I've always wanted a go in an Aston, I've driven a Ferrari but the pedals were set up for a vertically challenged person with small feet and strangely the pedal box was offset so it spoilt the whole experience.

I prefer the Jag XK to be honest.... aww, what the hell - if I got given the keys to anything I'd be in it quicker than a flash, especially something like an Aston

I have a jaguar XK8, if I could fill it up for £6 it wouldn't be tucked up in the garage for the winter

When the trees go by really fast I get about 8 mpg or 70p a mile so still cheaper than a taxi

That overtaking rush is addictive though :D

Aha! A man who knows cars  ... sort feels like a mid-life crises :p

I did contemplate the Jag., for about 1 minute; personally, the AM is the car I've always dreamt of having .. it was a no brainer for me, especially at the price it was offered.

A 4.7L V8 orchestra on wheels.

Beautiful!

Thank you; and yes, it sure is. I was speaking to a friend, telling them how the B&O stereo was a deal breaker for me (lack of it wouldn't do). She promptly pointed out how pathetic I was with that statement, in a car like this, she said, you just drive it listening to the engine.

I've always loved Jags. too, especially the E-type.

70p a mile  ... that's painful.

It's not that bad when driven normally, being very aerodynamic if I stick to 65ish on the motorway it'll do 30mpg

Lovely motor!

Thank you.

I have to say, I am rather impressed by the mileage I get too, when driven reasonably sensible.

Is it the case that you buy a glass and get a tankful of fuel?

Well if you ever need an assistant to take care of the mistress, stop her getting bored etc. just PM me.

Did you buy the wife anything too?

The wife?! Ops! :exit: ...

Truth is, yes of course. Made sure all those close to me where appropriately thanked for their support during a time when I felt as if my hands were tied with chains and being thrown into an abyss! I can't begin to describe the trauma this had caused everyone close to me :(
