....my (Not So) Mighty Mouse.

I've tried it for a while now but it's just frustrating. It doesn't have enough weight behind it, it doesn't seem to track very well and the little ball thing is a bit too fiddly for me.

I'd really like a Logitech Performance Mouse MX however I've got concerns over compatibility.

Logitech have released a software patch addressing issues in Snow Leopard but there are still rumours floating around of freezing menus etc.

Does anyone use one with Snow Leopard and have any problems? I don't fancy paying £80-90 notes for something that doesn't work.

Cheers.

I love my mac but I use a £10.99 1600 dpi mouse from a place called PCworld :)

I also didn't get along with my mighty mouse. As you say, it just didn't seem to track well at all. Maybe we had bad examples

I have an MX Revolution mouse, which by the looks of it, is the predecessor to the one you've linked to. Didn't actually know there was a new one. Looks very nice.

So I've had my MX since before I switched to Snow Leopard. Before I switched, I had no problems. There were a few 'quirks' that you've got to work around. When I switched to Snow Leopard, I did have a bit or a rigmarole getting it working again. Can't really remember what problems I had, although I know I had to work out the solutions to a new set of 'quirks'.

It's all working the way it did with Leopard, but configured a little differently.

But once it's set up, it all works great.

I guess the new version will use the same software, so experience could be similar, but couldn't be 100% on that.

Hope this helps. :D

(I personally would be quite happy to buy the new version)

I use my WACOM Tablet (Intuos 3 A5 Wide) and mouse with my MAC Pro and Snow Leopard with no problems....

This is a common problem with mighty mice. The trick is to turn it upside down press down and rub it up and down on a newspaper for a couple of minutes - you'll usually find it puts it back to normal for a month or so. If after that it still doesn't track then ring up appl and get it replaced free of charge if within the one year.

Next is to check your settings and adjust the tracking speed of your mouse -mines up to the max.

Lastly, throw away your mighty mouse and get a magic mouse - No more rollerball problems, it's multi touch across the entire surface - using it as a trackpad-takes a little getting used to but, a month in and I wouldn't use another mouse if you paid me

The mighty mouse is rubbish, I've had 3 in 3 years and they keep getting clogged up. Just got myself a magic mouse and it's loads better :):)

great tip! been trying to get mine working for ages cheers

You wouldn't believe the amount of people that I've said that to that can't believe how well it works. An Apple technician at a tradeshow told me how to do it, it's also on their support site oddly - seems like a design fault

I've had a Mighty mouse for about 9 months and yup it does occasional throw a wobler.

However I now have a brand new i5 iMac with magic mouse. Thought it was all a bit of hype until i started using it seriously. It is a very nice bit of kit. Is it worth £55. I don't know. My old Microsoft corded mouse was less and works OK ( Back up for when batteries die)

If you can get to a dealer check out the Magic Mouse, else go for a good reasonable one, like the Microsoft one

i ditched the mighty mouse and got the mouse you listed, its expensive, but imo worth it. i had enough of turning the mighty mouse upside down and banging/rolling it on paper.

My colleague uses the Logitech MX revolution on a mac with no problems (the previous mouse to the one you posted)

I don't mind the 'Mighty Mouse' really, okay sometimes the right click doesn't work first time etc, but overall I like the feel of it.

Found a way to clean the scroll ball too... Get some blu-tac and move the mouse over it in a figure-of-eight motion, cleans all the gunk out of the inside brilliantly!

Really, really want the new 'Magic Mouse' but I don't fancy spending 60 quid on a mouse at the moment.

Don't forget to feed it a quality piece of cheese now and then if you want it to be at the top of its game :D

the new magic mouse is better than the previous mighty mouse

Much much much better! Loving the scroll on the back of it too.

hated my mouse, fed it cheese still didn't work, threatened it with a cat and it just laughed, so I thought I'll show it :bat:

In came Logitech, its working but it does have spells of not behaving, seems to lag a little, I reckon it will be going to a new home soon.

Sometimes I wish that Apple would just watch the functionality of gear instead of getting over fixated on the look

I agree. The magic mouse is tops. However if the magic mouse doesn't appeal to you and you don't fancy shelling out £90 for a mouse, then ill be selling my old MX revolution (which isn't ,as far as i can see, much different to its replacement) in the next couple of days.

Edit: Never heard of any problems with MX Revolution and Snow Lep

£90? Wow they saw you coming, shouldn't cost you more than £55

Not for the performance mouse, the cheapest is circa £80. The MX revolution (which I'm not against if bug free) is about £50. I'm surprised no-one is using one who's posted so far.

Myself and someone else has confirmed they work fine with Mac.......

I use the Logitech VX revolution with a program called Steermouse that allows you to utilise and customise all the buttons. Very similar to the MX revolution and very useful.

No problems with Snow Leopard.

I have three or four Logitech 'Click' mice around - some with macs and one in my holiday bag for use with my lappy when away from home. It's a mouse with a more basic layout. I can never get on with extra buttons on the sides where they just don't belong.

Anyhows - I've now switched to the Magic Mouse and I'm loving it. It would be nice if it were a little larger, but it's still a major advance in rodent technology.

I don't believe you will have any compatibility issues with any mouse - except possibly those that try to do things which mice are generally not good at. Keep to the basics.

Just for balance, compared to the old single button mouse, the mighty mouse is a revelation!

If you clean it on clean paper - not tried newspaper as I don't want ink to be transferred to it, it works fine.

But I suppose it depends on your desk as much as anything.

I had one give up the ghost and got a brand new one on the bay for about £18. Can't complain at that now can you.

If it does not have to be wireless the Microsoft Explorer mice work great and you can get the Inteillmouse software for mac too, works fine on my 10.6.2

i stand corrected, i dont have that mouse, i have the same as you, the mx revolution. to be honest when i looked at it i thought it was the same mouse just slightly updated color etc. but having looked at the logitech site, its got some new bits on it, but it has lost the thumb wheel, which i like. its essentially the same mouse though. i must say im as puzzled as you on how it charges while in use

Looks like it becomes a wired mouse when you recharge - connected to a USB port.

Nope - no cradle, unlike the MX. Cable plugs straight into the nose end of the mouse. There are pics on the website.
