:help: I have a Canon 35-105mm USM lens and it randomly decided to stop autofocusing the other day?!
It hasn't been dropped or anything, i can't understand why it would happen. ive checked all the connectors on the lens and they seem fine, other lenses work on my camera so its definitely the lens. I have noticed though, that the movement when zooming is getting stiff, could this be the problem, and can you loosen it/clean it?? :help:

Have you cleaned the electrical connectors on the lens? Failing that, it might need to go in for service....

Silly question - does the lens have a manual focus override switch?

Those were all my first thoughts, especially the last bit - the af/mf selector switch on the lens. Which way is it pointing?

I have cleaned the connectors on the lens - yes it does have a manual/auto switch, set to AF - still no luck. The camera wont take the pic when on auto so the camera knows its on auto and out of focus, the motor just doesnt kick in

Can you try the lens on another body? Anyone you know have a Canon which will operate it correctly?

Does the 30D have a custom function to stop AutoFocus where you can change what type of focus happens when you half-press the shutter?

If so, when this is set it turns off AF, you may have set it accidentally?

i will have to double check that, though when i put other lenses on, they AF fine :bang: im thinking maybe the issue lies with the lens

Found the problem, the focus ring was jammed, took a bit of pressure to move it but the AF is workin again :woot: Think you may be right, service required. Thanks for your help + suggestions
