Yes
Went to a wedding at the weekend (as a guest), got my camera out and saw my siggy 24-70 2.8 is broken near the mount :(

When attatched to the camera body the lens can tilt a little which is obviously going to throw the focus off. It still actually works and hasn't been dropped (I honestly can't figure out how this happened :() but I'm worried about it breaking off completely if I use it.

Would sigma be able to repair this or is grim lens reaper sharpening his scythe?

If it isn't something sigma could fix I think i'd probably attempt a repair involving superglue since its really a casing problem.

Send it to Sigma for a quote- their service department is rather good. At the worst, you're out £10 for the carriage...

Now that's a bummer.:(

Ouch :( I think I'd be tempted to get the glue out, but it might be worth asking Sigma anyway

oopsy

+1 on the insurance.

Sigma should be able to fix that though. As the mountings on them are interchangable (a bit - at the factory) I'm sure its something they could fix.

House insurance has a £100 excess and I got the lens new for £240ish so don't think its work losing our NCB for it.

I'm a little hesitant to send it to sigma bacause of the risks in posting it (had a couple of bad experiences so a little more weary now). Would they have a look at photos before posting it to see if it's feasible to fix it?

Send it RMSD insured for the full amount of a UK spec lens, then if they lose it, claim off them and buy a new one.

I had a chat with them over the phone and they pretty much diagnosed the problem. They have a standard tariff for most things. This lens is catagory five, which means it's £74.99... assuming this part is covered under the standard tariff

01707 329999 - Sigma UK ;)

I was going to suggest emailing them the photos, but they'll most likely say they need to physically examine the lens as there could be internal damage as well.

You could always post it, insure it and claim the postal insurance ;)*

*This is what is commonly known as a joke, I am not suggesting, or inferring that anyone should do such a thing ;)*

*I also appear to have a nervous tick in my right eye ;)*

* The nervous tick wants me to inform you that he is not suggesting, or inferring that anyone should do such a thing either

the post would have to lose it first , for anyone to do what you are not suggesting they do

Hi mate... Ring sigma and see what they say, they fixed my 24-70 when I dropped it and fcked the autofocus.

£74.99 I seem to remember.. cheaper than a new lens :)

and cheaper than the insurance xs

The Sigma service dept are pretty good. It's cost me £38 to get my 10-20's focusing repaired. It had to be sent to Japan for it! (needs new elements)

Ooh, nasty. That doesn't look like a simple repair to me. I'd be interested to see how it turns out.

Need a 24-70 to tide you over? ;)

Well I emailed sigma uk with the photos and they said it should be repairable for £74.99 but they wouldn't be able to say for certain without looking at it. So I sent it yesterday RMSD so it should be with them today some time. Just waiting for the call/email now to see what the damage is :(

i can see what the dammage is in the pics ? :coat:

Received a letter from sigma uk yesterday saying they estimate th repair at £74.99 which includes changing the casing, calibrating and testing. Hopefully the estimate will be accurate! :D

Just had a quote from Nikon UK for "fixing" a few cosmetic bits on my D200. Must have won the lottery as they want under £40 for the lot, including new buttons all over plus new plastic'y bits to protect the rear LCD and top status display. Including labour.

Hope you get your 24-70mm back soon in prime health!
