My learning to drive thread **UPDATE-Lesson 2**

Good tips Matt: They love you to check your mirrors.. so just imagine you are passing some attractive females (or ferraris.. whatever floats your boat) every so often and check them out in your mirrors.. Just don't turn round and go after them ;)

Oh and make sure you exaggerate the looking.. If you just glance with your eyes they won't notice.. So move your head.

Good to hear your enjoying it, if you do decide to get a car before you pass, don't get used to it too much as it will be different from the one your learning in, and you may make simple mistakes, like with me i learned in a Corsa, but i bought a Fiat Seicento sporting, and the pedals were closer together, so when i got in the learner car again, it took a while to get used to it again, but its all fun, just enjoy learning and don't worry, if your doing all that on your 1st lesson you must be good. Once you pass you will enjoy the freedom you get, being able to drive anywhere, and not having to rely on people giving you lifts.

All my money will go on lessons so I wont be able to afford a car

Thank you :D

Next driving lesson Thursday Matt? Good luck M8 and good luck everyone else on the roads!!!

Another bad thing about learning to drive is that the learner car always seems to be newer and better than your own.
When I passed, I was excited, although that soon turned to disapointment when I looked at my car - "Is that what I'm driving"

Too true, my driving instructers car was a Peugot 205 1.9 GTi, hell of a car, when I passed it was such a shame to get into my vauxhall viva

Also my driving instructor was Garry Glitters brother:eek:

Lesson 2. Right and left turns.

Well had my second lesson today! It went very well. I was doing right and left turns. Only stalled once or twice. I have got the feel for the clutch now, just not the brakes  I slam them on!! Also because I did well I got to go for a drive. Went down some country lanes. Didnt now how good it would feel to blast down one at 60 mph :D:D Hill starts next week, which should be fun :D

Just wait until you start with the reversing.....

keep it up when u eventually pass its the best feeling ever ever, YOUR FREE to go where ever you like

I passed a year and a half ago.
It was the best feeling ever and couldn't wait to go out and buy a car, but i never actually did and havn't drove since i passed.

That reminds me i must go out and buy a car  i keep putting it off as im not confident anymore.

Its the hefty insurance bill that puts me off as i would rather spend 1k on other things

Good luck for when you go in for your test.

Thank you!!

I had my third test on thursday and we did hill starts and emergency stops. IT went very well and I cant wait for my next one!!

Third test already. I hope you meant lesson.
A workmates son passed his test during the week on his second attempt. He already has his own car and been driving it with his Dad beside him to gain extra experience. After having passed his test he rang his insurance company to let them know he now had a full licence. You can imagine how quick he came back down to earth when they told him they now wanted another £1,000 for his insurance.

I know my insurance is £1300 for a Fiat Sciecento Schumacher Sporting, its only a 1.1

Good stuff Matt  what you covering next ?

That sounds quite cheap, unless you're 35
I reckon it's extortionate. Insurance companies know people have to buy the insurance to be legal so can ask what they want. I reckon you should get at least £500 of that back if you don't make a claim, as well as your no claims bonus.

Don't get me started with insurance...

Norwich 'quote me suicidal' union: £900

Quinn Direct (on the same level of cover, with my perks): £350

NU are the single most expensive insurer I've ever come across.

Town driving. Trafiic lights, roundabouts, ignorant mums in Range rovers. That sort of thing :D
