Hello everyone, although I have already posted in other areas of this forum I thought I’d introduce myself and give a little background. I am very new to photography as can be seen by my pics and as such have a lot to learn. I purchased my first camera in the summer of 2004 and now wish I’d spent that little extra on a camera I could have more control over. My Olympus C-450 is 4 mp point and click and being my first camera I was happy with the pics from this until seeing some that are posted on this site, some of which are truly amazing. I thoroughly enjoy getting out with my camera as this helps alleviate the stresses of day to day life and at the same time gets me from under the wife’s feet as well as getting the circulation going in mine.
I hope to purchase a new camera soon and learn some creative photography from all you members. Having already emptied the local library of there photography books I’m considering joining the local photography club, just wish I took this up along time ago.
I am not used to forums nor the etiquette involved and don’t understand smileys so don’t tend to use them so please be patient with me.
Why Kenco1964? Well my name is Ken (and not Kenneth) Co because of the wife and kids, 1964 the year of my birth making me about 28 in womens years.
Looking forward to submitting pics and benefiting from your expertise as well as viewing your excellent work.
Many thanks Ken.

Hello Ken!

I have a similar story to you, got a cheap digicam, found it wasnt doing what i needed it to do so upgraded, at first i bought a fuji s5000 but found again that it wasnt quiet what i needed, i now have a 300d but need a bigger zoom! When you make your upgrade choice, try and get the best camera that you can for your money, and if its a DSLR, budget for lenses as you will want them...

I used to live in Co. Durham, in Stanley....is it still there or has it been flattened yet?

Small world, Stanely is still there but should be flattened, no sorry, Stanely has received some lottery funding and is going through some much needed regeneration programme.
I think my budget is a huge stumbling block as the wife hates when I get a new hobby as I always spend large amounts of money, money she would only spend on non essentials like domestic products, food clothes and make-up. Thinking of purchasing the 300d myself as the latest drop in prices are very tempting, (need to catch the wife in a good mood first and that’s never easy).
I'm from ShotleyBridge near the hospital and have lived in the area all my life.

Im glad that Stanley is getting a makeover...i used to frequent Parkers, the Blue Boar and the Kings Head(or i think it was, was normally plastered by the time i got that far)

Promise the wife a new cooker, worked for me!

I’ve just spent all summer fitting a new kitchen and already this year redecorated the living room, buying everything new, leather reclining sofas 2 of and a plasma tv, if she spends anymore money that would be my lenses out the newly double glazed window.

sounds like time to have some retail therapy man style then!

The plasma screen is an obvious necessity, but I'm not so sure about the rest of it.

Steve.......1DsmkII at least. :
Letters and numbers to me, probaly not half as many as the 0's on the price, Anyway i'm not into self harm, telling my wife something like that would constitute self harm. i have to give her some credit, she said i could be boss when she's out.
CT..........but I'm not so sure about the rest of it.
My point exactly, we had great fun trying to keep the camping stove lit and that's all gone now.

welcome aboard, it's a nice place this, as you've already found out :)
