I was looking through an old tog mag last night (thanks Marcel ;)), and was shocked to see how expensive memory cards used to be...

1GB SD - £80.00
4GB SD - £340.00 :eek::eek::eek:

And Ive just bought my two 4GB cards from under £20 each :lol:

Will we be buying them for mere pennies in a year or two? :D

Probably.

And they'll be in Terabytes too to keep up with the gigapixel full frame HD cameras we're all using that do 60fps!

Do you think we'll go full circle and all start using film again? :D

I can't remember the exact figures but I had a Fuji point & shoot camera a good few years back and it had a 256mb card which could hold about 40 good quality shots. I looked at getting a bigger card but the card was almost as much as the camera.

I used to take my laptop on holiday to transfer the images to because I refused to buy a bigger card Ha Ha Ha !!!

My first digital camera was in 1997, and cost me near on 400 quid.
It had its own memory card, which was 1 meg. It also had 256k internal memory IIRC (I still have it upstairs), no screen, and the memory card could hold 10 shots at full res (640x480), and 20 shots at half res (320x240). Had to download via a serial cable, and they all came down as BMP's

Aaaah the days :D

Yep. Right after we all get rid of our MP3s and start listening to vinyl :p

i bought a 64mb memory stick for £50

Yup, I remember when cameras used to come with 16MB, or if you were luck,y 32MB smart media cards. I've got a shed load of them still in a drawer somewhere at home and apparently they're starting to increase in price again. Do you think I should take them to the next Antiques Road Show?

Well, it's almost as cheap as a roll of film! Would you believe that... ;)
I wasn't writing about the TCO, of course.

I got my A510 with a 16MB MMC. Then dad bought me a 256MB one, because bigger sizes were just too expensive (relatively) at that time. I still have them, I don't really use them, though.

There's no good reason for MOST people to go back to film again as digital is much more comfortable the days.

at work they have a digital camera that cost £699.99 when new, 1mp and used a floppy disc as memory, all 1.4mb of it. lol oh how things have changed.

You have a fablious bridge over there in Bratislava, I have a buddy who shoots it regularly, he's called Alex, do you know him...

:lol::lol::lol:...just joking

I'd love to shoot it at night, only on film mind.
I use digital as back-up, I always run out of film...:lol:
*waits for the 2000 exposure roll*

No way! There's no turning back the time. We don't ride steam engine cars anymore, or burn coal for heating the home, or go without innoculations. And those times won't come back either. That's just romantic, but unrealistic, wishful thinking.

Well there are Togs about who still love it and swear by it, i did read somewhere apparently it still gives the best colour rendition, i wouldn't know as I'm no expert but I'm sure there's folk on here who do, i for one would be interested to hear there comments, i guess while there's still a good market for it we will always see it.

And in line with the original topic i remember a few years ago buying a 32mb card for a birthday present for my brothers new camera £35 lol.

I dont think digital has reached film quality yet but I'm sure it will one day quite soon. Having said that, in terms of commercial images, I don't see all that much difference if litho print is the end use but a real cibachrome, or even a really good inkjet print from a drum scan is far richer with a much smoother look.
