My Hermes yet again

Are any of the couriers reliable? I am expecting a delivery via DHL. They messaged to say it would come between 1608-1708 yesterday (I was sat in my study near the front door overlooking the drive all afternoon, working). Nothing arrived by 6pm, but I checked the tracking for an update and it said attempted delivery at 1600 (earlier than scheduled) with no answer and card left. No attemptred delivery, no card left. Clearly this driver was running a bit late, lied about delivery attempts in order to get home early and blamed it on customers

Exactly the same scenario happened to me a few years ago, but this time it was Parcelforce.
I was in the front garden half an hour either side of the "attempted" delivery time.

I actually needed the item, that day, ( 48 hr delivery) . So I went to the depot about 8 miles away, asked to speak to the duty manager,
armed with various proofs of ID as I had no "missed delivery card"

I did eventually get the the item, ( they couldn't find it at first it was still in his van) and it also turns out the guy was on 2 weeks holiday
from that evening.
So if I hadn't gone up there, there was a good chance I wouldn't have got it for a couple of weeks, even though it was a 48 delivery!

I had a Hermes parcel turn up yesterday. It'd been missing for weeks and as it was a duplicate item the seller had asked me to refuse to accept the delivery which I did. The guy asked me "What is it?" and I did tell him, it just slipped out but maybe I shouldn't have, I didn't think until later that it might not get back to the seller but at least the seller should have traceability and I did email them to say that I'd refused the delivery.

I had that happen last year, I refused delivery, the driver concerned, took it away again.
I found it 2 days later back on my door step !

And no, it wasn't a boomerang although you could be forgiven for thinking it was!

I've had more hassle over this one order than any other ever. I am just a bit worried that this will go missing again and not find its way back to the seller and I'll be charged twice so have kept them informed and have an email trail.

Dreadful mob, in this area and from my experiences the worst of them all

Depends very much on where you are. Here, most are pretty good with Hermes (ironically, given some people's experiences with them!) up near the top in reliability.

Exactly right, here Hermes good and DHL bad with the others somewhere in between.
Parcelforce is the best, good old Glenn has delivered on time right through the pandemic and always cheerful

I'd say it depends on the driver, my area postcode is split into 3 sections.
My one is totally useless, but it seems that the other two hardly miss a beat ...

Definitely depends on your local driver. We’ve had terrible trouble with a new Hermes bloke who replaced a previous Polish lady who was excellent. It got so bad that the new guy was eventually convinced to deliver everybody’s parcels to the local pub… the landlady would then contact people to say something had arrived. Living in a small village where most people know each other definitely has advantages sometimes.

I had fun waiting for Herpes delivery of Vax vacuum. First one disappeared from the radar after "delay due to major event". A replacement got sent out and even that was stuck with similarly weird message, but after contacting VAX it was released the next day. Besides, the refurb is in shocking state but that's a different topic. Both companies stink to the highest heavens.

Meh, Hermes, Royal Fail, same difference IMO, most of their delivery people are useless. That Sony camera I ordered on Fleabay last week is due for delivery between Wednesday and Friday this week, and I know full well it'll end up going back to the Hermes depot in Rotherham, surely it'd be a darn sight simpler to send it to the one at Heeley Common?

Had an Amazon delivery by Hermes this morning. The delivery was supposed to come Friday, then got postponed to yesterday. I queried it this morning and it was only when I got a reply from the seller that I realised it was a “fulfilled by Amazon” order and it was coming via Hermes. Of course they’ve done their usual astounding job… not only 4 days late but also the box has got tyre marks on it. I kid you not… it looks like it’s been run over by a lorry. Naturally the thing inside the box is smashed to buggery.

At least as "fulfilled by Amazon" you will get it sorted.......with a refund to start with!

PS if I had received such damaged box I would not even have opened but taken pictures and started a chat with Amazon asking them where should I send the pictures.

I find that damaged parcels delivered by Herpes is common.
Yesterday I ordered 56 x 412g tins of dog food from a company. I have just received an alarming email from Herpes "We are expecting your parcel .........".

I think it is high time that all traders gave a choice of carrier/ provided the option not to use Herpes.

One of my parcels wrapped in "Fragile" tape was totally crushed.
I wrote to the CEO's office to complain, and the answer was that the parcels travel many miles on automated belts, that can't read "fragile tape" It seems he neglected to mention that they then get bounced off the walls ....

The seller has been really helpful and offered a refund straight away. We live right out in the sticks, no street lights. So I didn’t spot the damage to the packing until I’d taken it inside, by which time the driver was long gone.

It was well wrapped and had several wraps of cardboard round it (it was a picture frame) so I was hoping it might have survived. The acrylic glass actually did, amazingly, but the wood frame was cracked in various places.

Just got the email from Hermes ... "We’re expecting your John Lewis & Partners parcel ..."

:runaway:

Actually (lucky for me) my Hermes guy is brilliant.

I am, however, somewhat surprised that JL use them!

That’s due to them tendering the lowest quote . It’s like expecting a 5 star meal and getting a McDonald’s

My John Lewis order was delivered by Yodel the other day. Seems they’ll use whoever they can at the moment.

For fear of stating the obvious.

I have ordered the occasional item from JL and done it via Click & Collect at my nearest Waitrose. AFAIK as online ordering comes from a central depot.....such C&C @ Waitrose gets there via their own fleet.....though of course there may be exceptions!

All of them have gone to s*** now. DHL left a massive big box right on the doorstep in plain sight. They never bothered to ring the bell and ran away. Lucky I was in and saw it.
Today not so lucky. UPS just gave a package away to somebody right on the doorstep. Again didn't bother to ring the bell. I wonder if I will get any recourse from this. Complaints were filed in both cases.

Endless convoy of delivery vans up my way today. All the usual carriers except herpes (maybe chucked everything over a hedge).

I had Royal Mail just drop a parcel on my doorstep the other morning without knocking or ringing the doorbell. If it hadn't been for the dog letting me know someone was there, anyone could have nicked it. :banghead:

I caught it all on video and will be sending it in with a complaint. How hard is it to press a doorbell FFS?

I've never know RM do this before - I think the bloke must have worked for Hermes previously.

It's because of Covid regulations, they have to leave it on the doorstep, let you know it's there and walk away.

Complain to your MP or Boris Johnson if you're unhappy.

Nowhere does it say not to touch the bloody doorbell though.

I kept getting a tap tap on my door, barely audible unless I see them coming.
I now have a big red notice on the inside of the glass panel..
Please ring the bell ( with an arrow pointing to it) as the door knocker is broken.
The normal Amazon guy suggested that I should get the knocker fixed as he doesn't like ringing bells :D

I have a big black doorbell in the centre of the door with one of these signs either side of it (they ignored one, so I added another):

Do not knock.jpg

I have a big notice from the local Police on my front door, unless you're family or a carer/support worker, don't knock on the door unless you have an appointment, it's to deter market researchers/Jehova's Witnesses etc, a few years ago one Saturday morning, a JW came a-knocking, fortunately I was in the bath and the carer answered the door.

I used to have " please ring the bell, if the dog didn't bark we didn't hear you"
I left it up way beyond the dogs passing.
I'd hear the doorbell ring, and then several "hammers" on the door :D

Update on the starter post ……. The lady over the road that’s didn’t like me picking my parcel up from her doorstep was broken into the other night , the police came round and asked the wife if we had heard anything ,nope …
But the wife said thought she had a ring doorbell ., copper said it was out of batteries OOPS
They have now had a very expensive burglar alarm system fitted … my mrs came in and said it couldn’t have happened to a nicer person ROTFPMSL

Oddly enough I moan about something quite different. Delivery person presses the doorbell..twice ...then knocks the seven bells of you know what out of the brass knocker ' bang-bang - bang - bang ' It drives me nuts. The doorbell chime are really loud. I've reacted a couple of times. I asked a delivery chap quite nicely why does he think it necessarry to ring the doorbell twice ..that's 4 chimes...and use the knocker too. He said he used the knocker in case the doorbell didn't work. I pressed the doorbell and asked if he could hear it. "er..yes...sorry" On another occasion I opened the door, stepped out and took a couple of steps past the delivery chap looking left and right asking him what the emergency was. I had to explain why.

They're improving now they have access to Star Trek transporters.

These days all couriers are bad and lie, even more so at busy times such as Christmas. Hermes are the worst. I once worked close to a Hermes depot. Their drivers were mainly using private cars. They would park in any space they could find, I witnessed so many heated arguments over this. They would wheel out cages to their cars, empty the parcels/packages onto the ground whatever the weather, soaking wet parcels/packages would be loaded into cars in 'order of delivery' filling passenger seats up to the roof, many wedged against the front window. Some drivers would have their partners join them when they couldn't fit it all in, utter chaos. I photographed them, some didn't like it but tough. I have never witnessed so much utter chaos.

A few years ago when I still worked for Royal Mail we got a large influx of parcels just before christmas to add to the heavy loads.
|t seems the police were waiting outside/near some depots to check vehicles/insurance etc and stopping them driving off
as many didn't have the insurance cover they needed.
It wasn't long after this that the vans appeared doing the deliveries instead of private cars
Talking to a couple of drivers later I discovered that the firms were cashing in too by leasing the vehicles out to the drivers

On a better note I ordered a high power torch kit off of Amazon at 11.a.m yesterday morning ,it arrived at 5.p.m NOW that is service
