Hi folks,

My house was broken into last Friday (12 November) and the following was taken, not sure if you guys can help track it down, but just wanted to let you know about the gear that was taken :(

There was a lot more taken, jewellery etc. My mum died two weeks ago suddenly and the scrotes took her jewellery too :shake:

I'm form West Lothian, Scotland, UK and the following camera gear was taken:

Sony HDR-SR11E camcorder, can't tell which of these is the serial:

P-02041960
s01-0511929-D
POS Barcode – 4 905524488456

Cameras

Canon 7D – serial number 1080700737
Canon 40D – serial number 0430102491

Lenses

Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II – serial number 35332191
Canon EF 70-200mm f2.8 L USM IS – serial number 00496194 (this lens had a hoya UV filter on it)
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM – serial number 52501194 (this lens had a hoya or jessops UV filter on it)
Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5/5.6 L USM IS – serial number unknown as of yet. Canon did a cashback scheme and I sent the barcode with serial number to them. Am in the middle of tracking this down from the receipt.

Accessories

Canon Speedlite 430EX flash
Canon BG-E2N battery grip – this was attached to the bottom of the Canon 40D camera, there were two batteries in it, one Canon and one unbranded.
Canon BG-E7 battery grip – this was attached to the bottom of the Canon 7D camera, there were two batteries in it, one Canon and one Hahnel.

Tracking the serial numbers down from the above from the receipts, no serials on boxes.

Accessories - continued

Hahnel HW 433 C80 Wireless Release (remote control for camera, I had broken the switch on the remote control and it was superglued so it couldn't move)
Cokin filter holder, and adapter rings
Cokin filters – Circular polariser, this was in a holder box, the box was broken.
Cokin sunlight, soft and a couple of other filters. These filters were in one filter holder box, the box had slots to hold multiple filters.
2 x 8gb Sankisk Extreme memory cards – these were in each of the cameras
1 x 4gb Sandisk Extreme memory card (these were in a transparent plastic blue memory card holder)
1 x 2gb Jessops memory card (these were in the transparent plastic blue memory card holder)
2 x 1gb Jessops memory card (these were in the transparent plastic blue memory card holder)

As I said, any help on keeping an eye on the usual places for selling stuff would be really appreciated.

Neil.

Firstly, sincere condolences for the loss of your mum................

what ####ing scrotes

As to what was taken seems to e more opportune, "nick what we can" other than target something specific......

I maybe talking a load of cojones here, but I would check craigslist, and free advertising newspapers, fleabay, and and kind of cash converters / pawnbrokers.........

I'll bet they don't know what they have nicked (other than a camera) etc..... so will be offloaded soon and cheaply.. Good that you have all the serial no;s though........

Off to go make a list of mine now.........

Again... sorry to hear the crap news.

Sorry to hear your double bad news, nothing can be said to make you feel better - as has been said hope your insurance helps.

Thanks.

Yeah, I am insured, it's not the point though. Worked my *******s of to buy my gear, always loved photography since high school (many years ago), but could never afford it until fairly recently. Built up my perfect collection, and it's all gone (give or take my macro stuff).

Worst of all is the jewellery though, my wedding ring is gone too :(

Very sorry to here your bad news, may I suggest hitting all the local pubs in your area and tipping your hat to the landlord. A lot of dodgy kit is sold in the local pubs.

words fail me... people like these will be amongst the first up against the wall come the revolution if I had my way.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I will kepp my ears open for anyone selling around my area. 90% of house thefts are from someone within a mile of your home. In that area you will find only a few people doing it--ask around and the same names will appear time and time again. Hope your stuff gets replaced under your insurance but its the items which cant be replaced that hurt the most.

Very sorry to hear what happened. I was burgled 3 years ago and had most of my kit stolen by a very selective burglar - he even removed a lens from the camera (and put the rear lens cap on!) and stole a different one!

I hope you manage to recover the items and the scum that did it is caught.

 So whilst beggars can't be choosers, burglars clearly can

(Not ignoring the OP's plight, we've spoken elsewhere ;) )

Hope you get the jewellry back, if not all your gear as well.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that gm43uk, they hadn't been that selective with mine, as they left the most expensive lens/flash. This will no longer be kept in the house. They just lifted my lowepro (which had most of the gear in it), and one other lens that was lying on my desk.

I'm sorry to hear about this. It must be particularly hard after the loss of your Mum so recently. I hope you get everything back as I know her jewellery and your wedding ring are irreplaceable.

hope your house insurance covers the gear since at least it can be replaced unlike your mum :(

Sorry to hear about this. I do know how it feels, having once awoken during the night to find the thieving scumbag in our bedroom. I hope your gear is recovered, but if not, best of luck with your insurance claim.

Condolences for the loss of your mother.

I hope Karma is reading this thread, and is planning a suitable course of action against the scum that stole your gear.

^ What Lynton said.

Check Craigs List, Gumtree and keep an eye on EBay.

I'd also email/drop in to all the pawn brokers in your area, especially Cash Converters and give them a copy of the list, preferably with photographs of the jewellery if you have any.

Take it one step further and also email your local LCE branch, and any local independent camera shops that are about who deal in 2nd hand kit.

The 7D, 70-200 and 100-400 are all relatively specialist bits of kit in general photography terms and someone in the 'goods received' chain will try to max their value.

By local, I mean at least 100 miles radius or so.

Condolences for the loss of your mother.
So sad.

Good luck.

:O I'm so sorry, what a crap month you've had!!!

Can't offer any advice other than what's been said - but just wanted to add my condolences and a hope you'll get them back.

As all the others have said, Our sincere condolences Neil.

Pete and Eileen

Many thanks for the kind wishes, I really appreciate them.

Started to do things today to try and recover some of my stuff, fingers crossed.

Seriously bad luck matey. I'll keep an eye out.

So sorry to hear that and my condolencies for your loss
scum like this are the lowest form of life
I really hope that bits of them fall off and goes runny

Hi mate,

Again, sorry to hear about your mum passing away. My wife’s mother died recently & that was hard enough for her to deal with, never mind getting all your stuff taken.

I would say you have set me thinking about recording all my meagre equipment serial numbers though!

Hopefully this will lead to the police getting a conviction at some stage.

At least you or your family were not hurt.

All the best mate.

Mick

Sorry to hear about your mum and loss of your gear, if it helps try and take it to work and hide in your boot, i feel my gear is safer with me that at the house.

Hi, So sorry to hear this.
I will keep an eye out for any sales coming up in the Fife and Edinburgh areas.

Late on this thread, but I can empathise .... I was burgled 4 times in the UK, even with an alarm they managed to get in. Amazingly they only got my camera equipment once. The only snippit of positivity I can offer you really is that hopefully everything you lost is replaceable, and therefore you will end up with new equipment. First time we were burgled my wife lost all her family jewellery, and of course we couldn't replace stuff like that.

Sorry for the stress it must be causing you though

I sympathise with you mate, I had a similar thing 8 months ago. 90% of my gear got nicked, thought id never see it again, and to be honest i havent... but on the plus side, they have caught the 3 people that burgled us (and a few others in the area) and they have pleaded guilty, awaiting charging in the next month or so.

Fingers crossed mate!

I had a similar thing too. Good luck Neil - I hope the insurance company at least does the right thing.

Thanks, fingers crossed they catch the little runts.

I am insured, doesn't replace my Mum's jewellery being sentimental :(
