Just got my first order for some shots I took at basketball......

Damn im so nervous I think i'll become a drunk to settle my nerves!!

Tell me it gets easier please

Thanks guys, Im nervous as I have never been this far along in my 'hobby' that people want to buy some prints. :D

Placed my order for prints and now hoping they turn out good enough to sell.

Well done, it's a great feeling when someone likes your work enough to actually pay for it !

And remember, if you are going to be doing this regularly, the price you set now will be the price point you are expected to stay at for ever....so don't undercut yourself or devalue your work. There is nothing wrong with any of that set.

It might pay you to take a wide angle too and for 5 minutes, go to the top of the stadium and shoot the entire scene - you never know who might want it. I bet you'll also soon be asked to do team shots before the games - lined up under the basket with the ball, you know the kind of thing. Once you start to become known, you will get calls from all quarters, even the fringes of indoor sports.

Well done and good luck. Does it get easier, of course it does, just like anything else you do more than once. I think your biggest pressure will come from within. Use it to drive yourself forward, either in terms of imagination for shots (think about MAKING a picture rather than TAKING it). Try setting some shots up, camera on the top of the back board for instance, and get 3 defenders and 2 attackers to stage a slam dunk...that kind of thing. You can always do it in trainning, not on the finals day!

the couple I looked at on flickr are good, I've had worse results shooting indoor sports before ;)

+1 on the team shots, you might find them v saleable

Congratulations! It's a great feeling isn't it! :)

There's some perfectly sell-able shots in that collection (as you've already been advised) so go for it and play it

Just one thought. I notice you're shooting with a D5000 at ISO 2000+. You might want to invest in some top-notch noise reduction software (such as Noiseware or Lightroom 3) - if you haven't already!

Thanks Simon, David & Tom, comments are well received.

Simon, these are the first that I have sold as prints to a parent of one of the players. I have had lots of support from England Basketball, getting lots of web coverage, and their last newsletter had 41 photos inside, 18 were mine, that gave me a huge boost. I have also been asked by a BBL team to shoot some games for them, so that will be another step up.

I have set a price that I think reflects my standard at the moment and it shocked me a little when I looked at the final bill,(It looked too much) but I know I am worth it and that is the cost for my work.

Regarding other shooting options, Im limited with space but not imagination, and as my confidence grows, so will my skills.

Tom, I have CS5 and too scared to use that at the mo, but it is something im looking into, thanks.

Thanks again guys, your support is great.

Hi Phil,

Well done.
You have some great captures there so I am sure it will be the first of many.
