My first day as an Event Photographer

Or the coaches running in front of you 3ft on the pitch! Never get that with Fergie!

For "parents" read 'coaches'!!

Spot on!

As an aside, I had a touch of a barney with one earlier in the season. It went something like this:

Sit: 5 a side AW pitches, U10s, about 2m between touchlines. Rather irascable 'manager' constantly on the pitch by about 1m or so. Near goal:

Me: Hey, do you mind?

Him: I'm the manger, what it is?

Me: That's the second goal you've blocked so far by being on the pitch.

Him: Who do you work for?

Me: The ************

Him: Well that's an error then. I'm the owner.

Me: *silence accompanied with a longish look *

Him: You want to watch what you're saying. You'll bring the paper into disrepute.

3 minutes pass

Me (under breath): F***!

As it turned out he wasn't the owner but the Exec of the IT division and also a parent of one of the kids playing. Luckily the Ed backed me up - after all he wanted the pictures!

haha I used to coach basketball and getting the younger kids to stay away from the ball was a nightmare, 10 kids surrounding a ball..... it was the same with the kids footy too, the older they get the easier it is to pick them off, not sure I fancy getting things thrown at me from the crowd at the big boys games - I'll probably end up starting a riot as I chuck stuff back at 'em :D

Best one I had was from a coach who constantly stood in front of me. Then when (supposingly) realising what he'd done said sorry. "Thats ok" I said "I've got plenty of shots of the back of your head, now if I can just get a goal shot I'll have cracked it!"

He actually saw the funny side of it which was a shame because I wasnt trying to be funny at all!

"spectators" (see parents) encroaching on the pitch to see what's going on down the wings is a bummer too!.

As for the body aches; my legs are still stiff as a board from 8 hours shooting mountain biking on Saturday. Age is a nasty unforgiving thing! :D

Should have had a nice comfy seat with you, worked for me!

At least at my youngest ones football, they put up barriers of tape.

Err then all people do is walk forward and the tape stretches.

We cover a tournament where they use rope. Every year someone almost gets garotted, but they don't seem to take heed...
