My first camera was....

Pretty sure my first camera was one of those Haminex ones that were very wide and thin and looked vaguely remote control shaped. Anybody know what they were called?

My dad gave me an Olympus OM10 hand me down as well but I never really got into it. Ironically I've just bought another recently.

there was nothing good about Zenits, not even as door stops

I started with a Zenit E and then a Zenit TTL which I thought was wonderful compared with the external Selenium metering on the E
I was doing an 'O' level in photography in the sixth form at the time but spent a lot of time going out taking photos forvhe hell of it
The Zenits were very good starter cameras for what I needed at the time
They were very simple and I could only afford the standard 50mm Helios lens so all my effort and concentration went into the subject and composition
I ventured into processing at the time - blacking out my bedroom to make a dark room !
Waiting to see your images appear in font of you as they developed was so enthralling and so rewarding when a good one materialised as you could never take them for granted untill they developed
It is all so taken for granted these days with digital and to some extent some of the 'magic' from those early forays into photography has been lost perhaps ?
Thinking back to those days when everything was a bit more simple it would seem that we all now have much more choice and can take many things for granted - including that we can afford to buy a lot more of what we want - but are we better off or does more choice than we actually need (Sky TV being another prime example) make us better off or happier - or did the effort required to produce great results and making do with the limited equipment that was available and affordable make the whole experience simpler and us happier with our efforts ? Or am I simply looking back at times gone by with rose tinted specs ??

Rob

First Camera was Christmas prezzy when I was about 14, a second hand Kodak Retinette, I think it was the 1b, must have been almost as old as I was at the time. I used to borrow my Dads Weston Light meter and photographed trains, lots of trains. :)

It was pretty good too, even if I wasn't.

Hiya
Boots 110 camera here for a school trip, and all the pictures had my fingers across them.

My first 'real' camera was a Zenit B... My lasting memory of it being, when you pressed the shutter release, people on the other side of the street looked round to see what the noise was!

My 1st REAL camera, was a Pentax ME Super with a 135mm lens

Les

My first camera was a supasnaps snappit in the late 80s when at primary school. I had a red, blue, white and yellow one. I remember being so appalled by the photos it (well I) took that I threw all the photos in the bin!
It was another 20 years until I started getting a real interest in photograpy

Mine was a twin lens reflex camera that was given to me when I was about seven or eight, I still have a couple of photos from the first roll of film that was over forty years ago.

Mine Was a Zenit and i loved it. I purchased it out of my first pay packet when i was 17. If i remember it was £36.:)

Mine was a Voigtländer Vito B that I 'bought' from my Grandad when I was about 13, followed by a Zenit E a couple of years later while studying photography 'O' level. I sold the Zenit but won't part with the little Voigtländer :)
