I have just bought my first camera which is a Nikon D3100

It comes with a lens and i already have a bag and a 32gb class 10 sd card.

I am now on the look out for a tripod.

Which tripod would you recommend for under £50?

Personally I would say up your budget a little as the tripods I've seen at the up to £50 range have been woeful, think up to £100 and then look for something that is stable and can take the weight of your kit, then get one that is not so heavy that you don't want to carry it as otherwise you'll always leave it at home or in the boot of your car

Another vote for redsnapper. It is nothing like the cheap ones you will find on amazon, you will not regret it!

Depends what you need it for, if your just after a nice little tripod to take out and about when you might need it for occasional landscape etc, I purchased the following.

Obviously if your serious about using your camera on rock faces etc, of your using a 1Ds or the like with some fast glass, then something like that will not be up to scratch. Yours being a 3100 it will be of a similar weight to my D60, so should be OK.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

Look for a tripod that can go very low... think jessops have some around the 100 ukp mark and you can handle them and get a sales person to demonstrate it.

I think one even had the option of putting the camera on the bottom to get even lower... You may need a tripod head to tile/turn too though...

Why do you think you need a tripod?

Well, there is now 2 threads on which Tripod. perhaps they have been asked what they want for Christmas? Or just the start of collecting the gear they think they need

Monopod or trippd i'd go Giottos pro range excellent tripods

Plenty sell for just over £50 on ebay.

Made me chuckle a bit considering the experience of the person who asked you in the first place ;)

You use a Tripod to reduce camera shake and to achieve maximum sharpness

I think the questions was more aimed at you as a photographer. What sort of photography are you doing that would likely cause camera shake thus resulting in reduced sharpness..?

I'd recommend a redsnapper too. I have the RS284 legs and a Giottos MH1301 head, cost me around £100 for both.

Yeh im going to get the redsnapper thanks for the help!

Hi,

After reading the forums threads on tripods and Redsnapper products I thought I would sign up.

I am currently struggling to make the decision to either....

Buy the 283 with a 3 way head for £58.95 http://www.redsnapperuk.com/camera-accessories/RS-283_tripod_and_RSH-24_3-way_head_.html

Buy the 283 with a 528 head for £74.95 http://www.redsnapperuk.com/camera-accessories/Tripod_And_3way_head.html

Or purchase the Major Carbon by jessops for £99.99 http://www.jessops.com/online.store...ops/major-carbon-fibre-tripod-76932/show.html

I am confused between the redsnapper products because I am not sure if I should pay the extra £9.00 for the 528 head (that's what it works out after discount) or if I should stick to the cheaper product and by a different head should I need one, one day ie manfrotto giotto etc

The jessops one only throws more into the confusion because it was mentioned in the N-Photo magazine as being pretty good.

Please help

I would personally buy the bundle with the cheap head and then if you want a different sort of head then buy a premium one. I paid for the more expensive head and now have a Giottos head and have no regrets for doing so.

Thank you for your feedback.

I will continue to see what everyone thinks today and place the order tomorrow so that I can have a play at the weekend :-)

Thanks again

Chris

£50 You would be better buying a monopod

IMHO, a monopod is a different piece of equipment for a different job. I only use my monopod for when I have my 'heavy' 150-500mm mounted (usually when I'm 'on the hoof') - it takes the weight of the lens so that I don't have to and aids me to hold a stable shot. I use a tripod when I want a motionless mounting for my camera (and so that I can do other stuff with my hands than just hold the camera - like prep the subject and aim reflectors).
